They say an idea can change the world. There are things around us that challenge us, pinch us, that we wish to see changed.
Kerala comes across as a land of promises. What with highest literacy level, amazingly healthy gender ratio and highest Human Development Index (we’ll discuss about them in detail in succeeding paragraphs) it is a gross misfortune on our part to have a state with not-so- illustrious economy.
How can we, the youth of the state, can be the change we wish to see?
God’s own country
Kerala – A state that evokes some aesthetically very appealing pictures of lush landscapes, sun-drenched beaches and idyllic backwaters. Many of its social indicators are on par with the developed world .To start with, it has the highest literacy rate of 94.59 % in India, the best gender ration in the country and best female population percentage. According to a survey conducted in 2005 by Transparency International, Kerala has been ranked as the least corrupt state in the country.
On the other hand, per capita income is lowest in the country with $ 1315 (2010-2011). Kerala has budding human resources, but most of the people migrate to the Persian Gulf countries, leading to its heavy dependence on remittances from its large Malayali expatriate community.
Numbers speak
Owing to liberalisation in India in 1990’s, Licence Raj restrictions against capitalism and foreign direct investment were lightened, leading to economic expansion and job creation. In fiscal year 2007
