Hillary
As the First Lady
Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton was the First Lady from January 20, 1993 to January 20, 2001. Rodham was appointed by Bill Clinton during her first few days of becoming First Lady, to head the President’s Task Force in many areas namely; Health Care Restructuring, overseeing research, investigatory trips, financial reports, numerous committees composed of medical and insurance professionals, lawmakers and other government officials, public service leaders and consumer rights advocates.
Compassionate
One of the many traits that Hillary Clinton portrayed was being a compassionate individual where she assisted in increasing national awareness of citizens who lived without any medical insurance and addressed surrounding medical issues faced by many of them. In this case, her concern can be felt through the most thriving component of her accomplishments as First Lady which was initiating the Childrens Health Insurance Program in 1997. This initiation has allowed children to be protected under health coverage even though their parents were incapable to do so. In addition, she also passed the Foster Care Independence bill and hosted several White House conferences that were related to childrens health.
Apart from youths, she focused on aiding women too. She lent her support to encourage older women to seek a mammogram annually to prevent breast cancer, coverage of the cost being provided by Medicare. Through these compassionate acts, it is evident that she was concerned about the welfare of society as a whole. The Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton foundation was also set up to accomplish the same purposes.
Professional
Being the First Lady meant that she has no political power and yet she still played an important role to the nation. “While her familiarity with the intricate political issues and decisions faced by the President, she openly discussed his work with him, yet stated that ultimately she was but one of several individuals he consulted before making a decision.” From here, we can see that even though she was in the shadows, she had an active role to play in politics and her husband’s political decision making.
