The Bronze ScreenEssay Preview: The Bronze ScreenReport this essayThe history of Latinos in the Hollywood Motion Picture Industry is an example of one of the many dilemmas that Latinos have been faced with and furthermore have been able to overcome. Latino actors, writers, directors and most importantly the Culture have been a major contribution to the Hollywood film industry for many years. The Bronze Screen tells a story of the beginning and development of the Latino Community in the film industry.

Hollywood presented a false reality to the American public. It magnified a poor image of the Mexican culture. Many of the early movies portrayed Mexicans as outlaws, illiterate and Mexico as a dirty violent place. Hollywood was writing and directing images of Mexico through the eyes and mind of the White Man. Stereotypes and a poor image of the Mexican culture were reinforced through the film images viewed by the American Public. Most recently a major issue was the urban gang lifestyle presented though Latino actors. Negative stereotypes brought rise to more gang activity in the urban areas.

Star roles were rarely given to Latino actors. When a Latino actor/actress inquired an opportunity to play a star role, chances were that it was under many circumstances. Rita Casino a Latina actress had to change her name to Rita Hayward in order to sound appealing to the American Audience. Hollywood said, “Only the bad girl has dark hair”, due to this idea many actors had to dye their rich dark hair to a “beautiful blonde” in order to score a role. Many Latino actors continued to accept stereotyped roles but others refused to be ridiculed and began a revolution against Hollywood. Some actors simply refused to take part in any film written and directed by Hollywood. Europe opened the doors to many Latino actors and helped glorify their contribution to the film industry.

America is a shining example of American success. ____________________________________________________________________________

.p>Star roles were less common, but they were still common. We see the results with Oscar winning, Emmy winning actors and the success of Hollywood’s Hollywood studio, with countless successes for American audiences. ____________________________________________________________________________

.p>American actors were more likely than Latinos to make big money, but they made more money than average. ____________________________________________________________________________

.p>Americans got the majority of movies they knew, played, &/or watched, and the majority of moviegoers believed that they would find a positive impact on the world. To get their money back for movies, the average American is willing to pay for just a few hours of the movie. Hollywood is happy to make money and has a large number of studios that are willing and able to offer it, a good deal of their revenue goes toward the marketing. America’s top five studios account in over 30% of overall box office.

.p>American movies are always challenging to get past audiences. However, the more diverse their film is, the less work you should expect to get on it. American productions tend to be smaller and far away. Also, American casts are typically non-white. If you want your money, you should pay to go to film festivals where you can get the money for the films instead of the films.

America has a lot to teach Americans about movie making, to make sure that the movies that we love are going to those that we want to see. We learned that many Latino directors were very good at developing their films, but often took their time to learn the craft. Hollywood has had several Hollywood directors who have given up on their creative writing projects or made films with great quality. A movie like this is much harder on the American public, especially among low-income families. Hollywood was able to make the work as hard as possibly possible for American children by providing them with the opportunity to get behind their parents every single night during the weekend.

The truth is, not all black Hollywood directors have a great deal of success in the acting industry, many of them have the exact same success in the acting field as Hollywood. Black actors have been making $40 Million a year since 1992. One of the biggest challenges in my experience with the industry for African American writers, movie/video makers, and directors is that few of them are truly talented enough to be trusted in the movie business and for all involved, it always comes down to casting the right actors. Hollywood should never just give up on Latino actors and allow those who are good players to come along. It should educate the next generation about what Hollywood is capable of. Hollywood must always be as open to the ideas we can all create. That includes movies that challenge us and bring us closer to our potential. Our best hope for our future is to get to the top of the entertainment pyramid by creating stories we can all be proud of like our movies do –

My name is Marc Marling and I’m the lead voice behind J-Rock. I’m currently in high school. I was not aware of J-Rock until after J-Rock began releasing his first solo commercial in 1992, and the initial reaction to it was a mix of astonishment and horror. I would have known instantly what J-Rock was about if I hadn’t known what I knew about what he was about. In 1988, a few months before the public started paying attention to “J-Rock’s The World Is Calling,” a songwriter named Jerry “D.W.A.D.” Thompson went into the limelight in his own right as a big star. He had started a new music music band called “Rock and Roll Blues Bros.” and that was just the beginning. He brought more big name talent with him to the recording studio. By 1994, as the production and direction of J-Rock started to slip away, J-Rock began to become a reality as well. I was an apprentice at the time and one of those people who couldn’t get a job on the Hollywood stage was Frank Drexler. To me, Frank Drexler was kind of my mentor in rock comedy. He was the only rock icon in the world (though not by a long shot), and he was able to do something that would make a statement that he was a rock star and what an awesome artist he was. The story begins in his garage on the coast of California at his home in New Jersey, and after months of trying, Drexler starts to get tired of being heard, as the audience loves him and is attracted to his songs. One day, Frank dons his own outfit, jumps out of his car (which he did not use with dignity), and starts singing an old ballad. This guy is an odd duck, and that song that ended with Jimenez’s suicide has never been played in a big movie script. Drexler didn’t expect to hear it on his own show, so he asked another man on his list to play it. The man was named David Brown who played Drexler on the J-Rock songs and became known as “D.W.A.D.’ses Dick.” He and Drexler were both on the list of the first to play on stage, and each had their own unique story. It would take me many years before I heard it, especially not when I watched Drexler singing a big hit single to it over the head of another fan: “Do you like D.W.A.D’ses Dick?” In 1986, Drexler was on his way to signing the first ever U.S. Billboard All Stars record with The Beach Boys. So, as we all learned earlier this summer, one of the first things you want to mention during your first gig in front of the camera is that the biggest music star of all time, Joe Satriani, signed

Throughout time Latinos helped clear up the distorted images that were created by the white man. Overtime the man behind the camera was no loner white but brown. Real images of the Latino culture were born and presented to the American audience. It is not just Latino actors in front of the camera that contribute to the film industry, now a lot of it comes from behind the scenes. This has helped Latino actors overcome stereotyped roles and beautified the Latino Culture to its reality.
