Main Characters:
Holden Caulfield- he’s in a prep school called Pency. He is 16 as he tell the story, but is 17 telling the story. He gets kicked out because he failing in every class except for English class, which he’s very good in.
Phoebe Caulfield- Holden 10 year old sister. Holden cares a lot about her and talks about her through out parts in the story. She is really smart and mature for her age.
Allie Caulfield- Holden younger brother. Allie died from leukemia. Holden also cared about him. He remembers memories of Allie through out the book.
D.B. Caulfield- Holden’s older brother. He is a book writer. He’s in Hollywood writing a movie in Hollywood. Holden also talks about him in through out the book.
Mr. Spencer- Holden favorite teacher in Pency Preparatory School.
Mr. Antolini- One of his favorite teachers also.
Jane Gallagher- one of Holden’s childhood friends. He really likes her and thinks about calling her up, but never does.
Sally Hayes- One of Holden’s ex- girlfriends. Goes to the movies with her in the story.
Complete Settings:
The story takes place in New York. It never really says when it takes, but it says Holden’s brother died in 1946 which wasn’t that long ago from where the story takes place.
Major Plot Point:
When Holden gets told that he’s getting kicked out of Pency Preparatory School.
When Holden gets in a fight with his roommate at Pency. That’s when he leaves earlier than he was planning to and starts his journey in New York.
When he stays at a crappy hotel for a couple of days. While staying at that hotel, he orders for a prostitute. He changes his mind and pays her 5 dollars anyway. The prostitute tells him it’s 10 dollars even though it’s only 5. So she goes and gets her boss and they demand 10 dollars. Holden refuses, so they take 10 dollars out of his wallet. Then the girl boss punches Holden then leaves.
Holden calls his old girlfriend to go to the movies with him. When the movies over, they go ice-skating. While there Holden asks Sally, that’s her name, to move away with him and get married. She refuses and starts yelling at her.
