As a young kid i never had any interest in reading books. when introduced to books in school i took the idea of reading as homework , and i was not a fan of doing homework at all. Also at the same time my parents were going through a divorce. And they were too stressed out from all the bickering that they didnt pay attention if i actualy did my reading or not. A simple “yes mom, i read my book ” was good enough at the time. Shortly after the divorce my mom left me with my dad in Poland and flew by herself to America not only to be as far as she can be away from my dad but also to start a new life. Being 7 years old without a mother and a father who always worked was no fun.
Luckaly the naiborhood i lived in was safe enough that i could go outside, and play with my best friend tymek. We didnt do much, we had no toys or any sports equipment besides maybe a soccer ball. But that didnt stop us from having a good time. we werent aloud to stray far away from where we lived but being young, and curious we ventured as far as we could before getting lost. Because we were nervous about breaking rules, instead of walking around exploring the city, we ran as fast as we could without getting too tired. On our advanture we not only made a couple of friends but also found a small Highschool and even a College. When ever there was a track meet, a socer game or any kind of sports compatition we would go watch. But most of our time we spent at our old kindergarden playground. Even though it was locked after we got out of school, there was a hole in the fance which also happaned to be the fance to my house, making it easy for us acces when ever we pleased. Since there was always something better for me to do then read books, i Never bothered to read anything unless it was in school and i had to.
About a year later i moved in with my grandmother. I lived with her, my grandfather ,and my uncle. My grandfather always worked, and my unlce was out alot ,but when he came back home from college he was aither stuck working on some math problems or stuck in the computer screen with me by his side watching him play. He even let me play them when he was busy. My grandmother was a a bit more stricked than my dad. since she worked in the mornings and was home every time i came back from school she always made sure i finish my home work. I would do everything besides read a book. She tried soo hard to make me read but couldnt. Eventualy she just read all of the books to me and hoped i would fall a sleep while she was reading.
Finaly when i was 10 years old my mom decided to take me to America for a vication. But she forgot to tell me that she didnt have the money to send me back after the summer was over. Not knowing the language made me so shy and conservative. It was worse than just going to a new school, I never had a problem with making friends. But trying to make friends in silent language was one of the hardest things i ever had to do. But
