Before this project I had no idea what a homeopathic practitioner was or what a bonding agent actually did. A bonding agent, was it something to do with stocks and bonds, or did this agent actually bond something together; a homeopathic practitioner, a doctor maybe? I had no idea how many occupations I had never heard of before.
When I first heard the word homeopathic practitioner I automatically thought of a doctor, yet as I researched I found that a homeopathic practitioner actually spent a lot of their time proving their research to doctors. Instead of just trying to fix the outermost problem, homeopathies “seek to stimulate patients natural defense and the immune system so the body can heal itself.”(35) They “treat the whole person, mind, body, emotions, and soul.” They view the symptoms as they are just the effects of a larger problem.
Homeopathic practitioners usually work alone, or go into business with several other practitioners (68). Their offices, which could be in a rented area, are very quiet and comfortable (67).
Many homeopaths “have the ability to determine the number of hours and days they work (37). They can end up working 30 to 50 hours a week or more, depending.
As any other job, you start out with a lower salary and work your way up. In your first years you can make up to 30,000 dollars, as a non-doctor (59). After you have worked for awhile then you can make anywhere from 60,000 to 120,000 dollars a year (70). For the initial visit homeopaths can charge 100 to 300 dollars (38). Then 50 to 100 dollars for follow ups (39).
To be successful in homeopathy, it requires a solid background in chemistry, psychology, biology, sociology, and business (60). Also, in college, health related fields in college such as nutrition, biology, premed, and nursing (41). There are no homeopathy schools in America, but there is homeopathy education in England, Mexico, and India (72), 42). There are no under graduate colleges available (71).
Most homeopaths are licensed, but the requirements vary from state to state (73).
Some of the most important personal qualifications include: inquisitive, people orientated, good communication skills (62). They must be committed and careful listeners, have good judgment, open minds and listening skills (74). Homeopaths have to have their own mind and the courage of their own convictions (46). Homeopathic practitioners must enjoy helping and working with people (44). On a more personal note, they must be detail and self motivated, enjoy researching, working alone. (45).
Homeopaths are employed all throughout the world. They are mostly in self practices, (47) although they have an option of working with business partners (62). Some health care centers will also hire homeopathic practitioners.
As the future is approaching, everything is advancing. The US is constantly looking for ways to improve everything, including the way we deal with illnesses (63). Homeopathy is not a very widespread profession, but it is very independent (76).
