Homosexual couples should have a right for adoption because they can make responsible and loving parents as well as heterosexuals. There is a lot of people who give false information about gay parenting, such as gay parenting raise homosexual children, children of gay parents have more problems, and that gay men are more likely to sexually abuse children. This information is irrelevant. In few studies on the sexuality of gay parents and their children, there has been no evidence to suggest that the sexual orientation of adoptive parents affect the sexuality of their children.
The United States have many children waiting to be adopted. Older children and those with special needs are hard to be placed with families. The children who fit these categories are in foster homes at this very moment with homosexual couples waiting and ready to adopt them. It is very unfair to the children to deny them permanent and secure homes just because of their age or the way that they may need special attention. On the website loveandpride.com the statistics state, “Often in gay adoption, parents will get children who are harder to deal with because social workers leave them last on the list. It is ironic that bureaucracies that believe lesbians and gay men are not suitable parents will place children who require the most highly skilled parenting with them.”
Most children in the United States live in a single parent homes and not with two married parents. In fact, according to the 2000 census, only 24% were composed of a married mother and father with children living in the home. Why wouldnt it be better off for children in foster care to be adopted by a homosexual couple then by a single parent? If a homosexual couple is willing to adopt as well as a single parent they should have that right to do so because most children are better raised with two parents instead of one, no matter if they are homosexual or heterosexual.
The Florida courts argue that children are better off raised in a two parent heterosexual household. However, scientific studies have shown that children who grow up in homosexual households are just as well emotionally and socially as children whose parents are both heterosexual. This comment from Bryan Samuels suggest that homosexual adoption shouldnt matter about your sexuality, “The child welfare system has come to understand that placing a child in a gay or lesbian family is no greater risk than placing them in a heterosexual family.”
Studies also show that children are more influenced by their interactions with their parents, then by their sexual orientation. With this in mind, I support the fact that gay and lesbian couples should be allowed to adopt children in the United States because, it should not matter the sexuality of a person. The only thing that should matter is the love and care the parent gives the child in their household.
Finally there is no legal reason
