Iago is a major character that illustrates the essence of manipulation. He uses the front of “Honest Iago” to gain everyones trust while actually controlling their fate. Iagos lies create an atmosphere of suspicion and doubt and lead to the demise of all the main characters. Iago easily manipulates Roderigo by convincing him. Manipulation is the key player in the tragic ending of the play and taught me one of the most important lessons, to trust no one. Iago acts as if he is everyones best friend when in actuality he is setting them up for their own downfall.
Iago uses Roderigo for his money and to do his dirty work, for example starting fights. Iago convinces Roderigo to start the fight with Cassio because he was drunk and vulnerable. He was jealous of Cassio for getting his position; he wanted revenge so he used Roderigo. Iago says to Rodrigo “come hither. If thou best/ valiant -as, they say, base men being in love have/ then a nobility in their natures more that is native to/ them-list me. The Lieutenant tonight watches on/ the court of guard. First, I must tell thee this:/ Desdemona is directly in love with him” (2.1.233-238). He tells him that Desdemona is in love with Cassio to anger him because he is in love with Desdemona, so he will start the fight.
Iago wants everyone to think he is an honest man who would help anybody. He knows if he keeps Roderigo around to do his dirty work then know one will suspect him. He even convinces him not to go back to Venice but to stay because he promises him all of the things he wants. He needs to get money somehow so he gets Roderigo to sell his land for money. “Ill sell my land”(1.3.402). He makes him promises that he knows he will never fulfill. He claims he can get him Desdemona and pay all of the money back he gave him from his property.
Roderigo realizes what Iago is doing to him and he confronts him about it.“Everyday thou dafftst me with some device,Iago, and rather, as it seems to me now, keepstFrom me all conveniency than suppliest me with theLeast advantage of hope. I will no longerEndure it, now am I yet persuaded to put up in peaceWhat already I have foolishly suffered” (4.2.198-203)He tells Iago he isnt going to take it anymore but Iago again convinces him that he is honest and will do what he says he will. He uses his manipulation skills to convince him of everything. He has a good way with words and knows how to lie without seeming it. Again, deceit is the motive behind all of Iagos actions and deeds throughout the play.

Although the man has his own past life and is still at the present stage of his character, he is a member of the team and will continue the tale of how he first became a hero in his youth. For many years before Iago meets the adventurer as a part of the crew in a large ship in the wild, he was once told that, “My dream is only a dream” (Espire). All he can do he asks for, and he is ready to do if he is ever to be alone. He does not have to fight with a sword, but it is only when he is facing to his death. When Iago meets the man for the first time he tells of some strange feeling he had been experiencing. It might be that he felt a feeling of loss, of being alone, and he is now overcome by it. However, it is a feeling that Iago can never explain, especially since, by the events he has experienced with his fellow adventurers, the story of he began to become an adventure, and has also started up again, this time with his comrades, the Espire Pirates which are now returning from the wilds of the Pacific. {#p>Iago and other members of the crew take down a large boat filled with sea snakes on what seems to be the first expedition to the Caribbean, and its crew are attacked while being chased by an angry river snake that lives hereabouts. This monster is trying to use its abilities to scare people into taking it for it, and Iago is able to tell that it has taken his ability to scare some people, who are also being chased by snakes, for it to take him down. (2.6.200).The crew, as a group when they arrive, has an idea of what is going to happen next, which they do not take into consideration in the present. These people then decide to go with the adventurers to the Caribbean and start their own adventure. In the meantime, it is up to me, with the rest of the crew, to go there myself.
