The Horror Stories that We AvoidStephen King Says Believe only half of what you see and nothing that you hear. But what happens when you’re stuck in a situation when you’re all alone and the lights go out suddenly and you feel something behind you, you hear it, you feel its breath against your ears but when you turn around, there’s actually nothing there. And you’re seriously in the right state of mind. Would you still believe only half of what you see and nothing that you hear? I wonder. My parents were not yet home that night. I was home alone enjoying some late night tv shows. Suddenly, I heard someone outside. I thought, “Finally my parents are here” So I kept my eyes glued back on the TV show that I was watching. Then, I heard a little scratch on our window. Then, I heard “Wak Wak.” I suddenly remembered an old tale saying; if you can hear it loud, they are far from you but when if low, they are very near from you. How ironic right? Then I heard it again “Wak Wak” It only gets more horrible the second time around.I immediately turned off the tv.  Checked my ears. Checked myself If I’m dreaming. I shouted “Ma?” “Ma?” I didn’t get a response not because my parents are trolling me but because they are not yet home. It feels like “Oh I’ve got some unique visitors tonight” I relaxed myself. I went to sleep like nothing happened. And I immediately moved on from what just happened. Did I just avoided that horror through not freaking out? Yes. This is literally my horror story that I once avoided. Just like after watching and listening to a horror story, we move on.  We may question it a little bit. But we get back to reality right away. What’s your horror story? And Do you avoid it?
Fellow Toastmasters and Friends, I don’t know what your horror story is .But based from what I have heard and seen, there are 2 General Horror Stories that We Avoid. Some are good and some are bad. First, About Ourselves. One would be our physical features because it haunts us. We sometimes feel that our nose is not, how you say that, long enough. Our eyes aren’t bright enough.  Our skin is not fair enough. It could be our feelings towards other people that it becomes a horror story when we are so afraid to express our feelings towards them, so we end up with the wrong ones. Oops…Or it could be our emotion. Some people become depressed that they avoid that kind of horrible situation and their escape is committing suicide. So sad because I’ve known some people were like this.We avoid the fear of being called ugly that’s why some people undergo physical enhancement, some people avoid rejection that’s why they become afraid to express feelings and some avoid sufferings through committing suicide.Second, Other People. Aside from ourselves, some people become a horror story in our lives.  Remember that annoying officemate? Remember that super active classmate that is so distracting? We avoid them through ignoring them and then we move on with our personal matters and undertakings.  But later on we realized that this officemate is going through life crisis and this classmate has ADHD.
