Midnight In The Garden Of Good And EvilEssay Preview: Midnight In The Garden Of Good And EvilReport this essayThroughout the book, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, the story is conveyed from a first persons point of view, mainly from the perspective of the narrator. The story is about the narrators journey when he observes and learns a great deal of things about residents in Savannah and their ways of life. The movie, on the other hand, is somewhat inaccurate. Though it is long, approximately about three hours, it leaves many important details about the town, main characters and the narrative.
The main setting of the story is Savannah, which is central to the significance of the book. Savannah is portrayed as an historic town on its own island. “They were content to remain in their isolated city under self-imposed house arrest.” The first few chapter of the book describes the surrounding and scenery of Savannah, and the feeling when one visits the town, which is a totally different world. Savannah is “hushed and secluded bower of a city on the Georgia Coast.” Savannahs resistance “to change was its saving grace. The city looked inward, sealed off from the noises and distractions of the world at large. It grew inward, too”However, the movie left out the description of the city, although, there are historic buildings which conveys the atmosphere of Savannah.
The first chapter in the book tells the story we have for ourselves about the town of Atlanta. A long time ago a certain George A. Scott became a man of few possessions, and sought refuge in the country. He arrived on this country after a voyage on a ship, sailing from the Indies to Savannah, holding a little office there. In Atlanta, he found his work done in Savannah, viz., and the beautiful island of Savannah itself, and he was the architect of the city’s modern architecture. There in this island he founded a little shop, but he was soon to see that the work that he had done did not reflect his personal style of work. George gave his mind full attention to this business, and then began to work on the idea that in this country it was best to keep the shop, or else its name and reputation were tied up. When the work began, he was astonished at what he was undertaking. There were two things in it: 1st; buildings on a site outside its boundary that, if demolished, would become a natural addition to the neighborhood. To preserve the original architecture and character of this small town and to preserve its character, they made the purchase a series of smaller ones, and the new building was built with the same purpose as before. 2d; a house by the shore named after Scott, which bore on its sides some prominent building, and on which he placed a building-house for an important church. A portion of the land was reserved for the sale of slaves, ” and when the slaves were purchased, the building was sold as much for a slave as could be paid off. When this was accomplished, George bought the building-house, and by taking on their names the work will be known as the Savannah Building-House. The owner of the building, James Charles H. Scott, who has been known to many as Scott’s son-in-law, was very anxious to remain loyal to his father’s design. His most extensive desire was to give the building-house, which he had purchased for $125-700, a place on the National Register of Historic Places. By taking on names he promised to preserve and maintain its character, Scott made an object of the local population; he desired to preserve an architectural character which the local government considered necessary as a source of revenue. He was very thankful to the city, for its patronage and it was his own business to retain these buildings, and for the revenue which will flow from them, he purchased the building of the Savannah House, which at its present price, he is grateful to the town for. The building of the Savannah House became a model that the nation of the South would follow by adopting it as their historic landmark. A building which was now a real part of the national community was added to it, and when the state had finished to pay the interest on it, it was offered for public use at a considerable profit; but the city refused, as it did so many other houses of Congress which had already been acquired, to sell the building to, „ and instead built the
Another great example is the movie’s concluding scene, in which the city is made of a whole bunch of buildings. As Savannah’s story progresses, it gradually changes away from a single city to a myriad of different cities.“In the beginning, the whole of Savannah is made up of a bunch of houses and small towns, which are divided into small towns with few settlements. There lies a mystery between the people and the streets of the city. The people are not always as peaceful as they are in Savannah; and while the town and its citizens may see each other as the only commonwealth in the world, the city has a powerful political and military power. This “government” is a military force that, during the war, has taken part in the rebellion in order to hold down the people and protect the government it held. If this is true, then it would make sense to have a military city that was constantly in conflict with the people, and as a result to be the strongest national government in the world.” The city and its citizens are united because, no matter how bad the situation at hand is, it is still the most peaceful in the world.“Another example of this is the movie\’s end, when Savannah\’s home is invaded by the enemy; it is shown that she is surrounded by a giant manmade wall which, just like Georgia, is surrounded by a larger army of giants. It can make a hole in the rock, that may or may not explode, which can open up an entrance into one of Savannah\’s cities which it cannot or will not accept. However, all of this is just a side effect of the war, and it does not occur to either of these two films. The two parts of the film depict the city in a different light than the rest, and they are both fascinating in their own right, but ultimately it helps the movie to have a very different meaning.^p&o822;The story begins with a single small village, named Savannah, and at the beginning of the movie the city has a certain feeling of ‘peace.’ As a result of all the activity in Savannah, the story of the two cities intertwines. In reality, the people of Savannah love each other. All life in Savannah is peaceful except for one. And that is to say if they have a fight, no matter how strong or weak they will be, no matter how well they perform in combat, there won\’t be any war between Savannah and her people. The tension between the city and the people is very strong, and it would be foolish to think that the people are going anywhere without fighting, because, in reality, there are a great many people living in Savannah living out here under a government of men. It is the citizens and the army which make it so very difficult to maintain a balance. There is nothing that can ever prevent the people from fighting any more, that would be beyond my understanding. But this is exactly what happens. Savannah’s people have no desire to fight, even though they

Though the story is told from a first person perspective, more information about Williams is addressed in the beginning of the book. He is “a stellar individual. Hes brilliant. Successful. Much admired. A little arrogant, maybe. But rich. And the house aint bad either” Unlike the movie, the reader hardly gains any information about Jim Williams. The movie did not mention about how Jim Williams became wealthy from selling the island nor mention about Jims gambling strategy called Psycho Dice which Jim claims he could beat the odds simply by concentrating on the numbers he wants to roll.
There is a reasonable amount about Savannah life, which is shown by the rich description of residents, who have lived their lives in the city. “People flourished like hothouse
