Since the beginning of its discussion as a possible explanation of life, evolution has been controversial and much argued. The simplest, most concise definition for evolution is descent with modification. This is expanded, however, to say that this could either mean the small-scale changes in the genes, or a large-scale change, which will take place over hundreds of years an many generations. Evolution is, then, essentially the history of life on Earth.
There are those who would argue against evolution and those who would argue for it. Many of the reasons for both sides are political and religious, which, although important, should stay out of scientific affairs to avoid stinting scientific research. The first step to proving evolution is to accept the fact that each creature on this earth has a parent. This was proven over the last one-hundred-fifty years, as the result of various experiments by Louis Pasteur. It is also accepted that there must have been an origin to life, whether it was extra-terrestrial or simply some natural primordial soup on Earth. The second step to proving evolution is extremely simple. When you look at the various creatures on the Earth, you can tell that they have obvious and undeniable differences. A bird, for example, has wings, while a fish has fins. They both, however, have a number of similar organs. This combination of similarity and difference, coupled with the previously stated point that all life must have logically had some origin, leads to the apparently foolproof belief that somewhere along the way, organisms must have started changing into entirely different creatures, eventually ending up as the creatures we see today. A final, similar area of proof is that it has been proven, through various fossil sources, that at one point thee were only plants and very simple organisms on the Earth. So, if these were the only ones in existence, how could there possibly be large, complex animals in our world today? The answer seems to be, undeniably, because of the process of evolution.
As stated earlier, there are many who would work and persist to disprove evolution, despite overwhelming and seemingly obvious proof that it is legitimate. This group of people is in a radical minority — in fact, studies show that ninety-nine percent of biological and geological scientists support the concept of evolution. A huge group of people who are in this minority are conservative Christians, whose main claim of disproving evolution is saying that if a dinosaur was found alive today, the entire theory of evolution would crumble. In fact, some young-earth creation scientists claim that scientists were alive in the last couple thousand years. One of the reasons that they can claim this is that there was allegedly DNA found in a dinosaur bone, and since DNA could not possibly stay intact for seventy-five million years, it must be only a few thousand years old. The two other points of evidence seem circumstantial and almost seem to be a bit of a stretch’: there are claims of human footprints inside dinosaur footprints, and there have been cave drawings that resemble dinosaurs. Some anti-proofs for these claims: the dinosaur DNA’ was not detected directly, and the human footprints have been found to simply be variations of dinosaur footprints.
There are many examples of evolution.
