Romulus my Father written by Raimond Gaita tell us about the difficulties that people that came from overseas had to go through in able to adapt to the current situation. Romulus and his family used to leave like in the desert are of Melbourne pretty close to his work near the border of New South Whales and Victoria.
The biggest difficulty would be to be away from the country you love but as you would know everyone missed there country that they were born in and lived from most of their lives. One huge thing that the book explains that is very different to Europe is the scenery and how hard it is to get adapted to and even after ages the scenery still seemed to be desolated as Romulus says.
“Thought the landscape is one of rare beauty, to and European or English eye is seems desolated, and even more then forty years my father could not become reconciled to it.”
The living conditions were very poor and the house was just 7.5m2 and they had no water and no electricity running. The worst thing that people went to that time was depression because of the change they have been through and the poor living conditions they had.
Romulus and Christina always used to fight. Christina used to work in Melbourne and used to come visit them only sum times and when she did she never used to care properly for them as u find out in the book. Christina used to sleep with other men and Romulus was jealous.
