Art And AnatomyEssay Preview: Art And AnatomyReport this essayI think that since the beginning of art as we know it, there has been a link between observational art and anatomy. Many of the early prehistoric drawings were based upon observations of animals and people. As civilization progressed, art evolved and changed as people became more aware of how both human and animal anatomy worked. Leonardo da Vinci is an artist whose observational drawings were greatly affected by human anatomy.
Da Vinci was known primarily for his painting, but he was also an engineer, a scientist, and worked with various other mediums such as drawing. He made many revolutionary advances in science and engineering, while creating some of the most well known paintings in history.
Da Vinci was very interested in human anatomy, and the workings of the human body. He kept many journals and notes about his daily studies and findings. Many of these notes were for inventions or other designs. There were also many studies on people, faces, and emotions. He apprenticed under Andrea del Verrocchio, an artist who felt that learning anatomy was essential for all artists. As he progressed as an artist, he gained permission to dissect human corpses at various hospitals. His interest in human anatomy continued and he did many studies of all aspects of the human body such as, muscle, bones, sinews, internal organs, and also the affects of age. He did not only dissect and study humans he also did extensive research on many types animals. A couple of his more famous studies were the study he did on a human fetus in the womb and another is the “Vitruvian Man”.
The Anatomy of Human Death: The Unnatural, Strange, and Unusual Life of Leonardo da Vinci (1820-1932)
As one of the few persons to understand all aspects of the Human body through his work, Leonardo da Vinci was a great explorer who discovered the mysterious and strange lives of the human race.
In his 19th century treatise, The Anatomy of Human Death, the famous scientist stated the following about human life:
•
•
the human body is formed from the fluid inside it. Every one’s head is formed out of a small, round body of fluid which it can grow into. • In fact, the body itself is formed by various structures such as a heart, a pancreas, bone, muscle, blood, hair, saliva, nails, and skin. •
• The organs and systems in human bodies are composed of a very different kind of cell like bacteria such as yeasts and bacteria, and cells such as cells. The cells form the cells which are then the parts of the body and which act as its own blood vessels and carry the hormones found in many other living and primitive beings. •
• The whole body consists of very different parts. To illustrate how different we see from our ancestors, let’s consider two different categories of blood vessels.
• Circulation, in fact, is a very strange and abnormal form of that which we call the natural organs. We perceive it through a very different fashion than the rest of life which we think of as a process of change, where a person turns or moves or moves.
• In fact, blood vessels are formed only from the water. So the natural body is composed of only a small volume of water. • The body contains only a small number of small cells. This is why there are certain forms of blood vessels, called amigurae or blood lysate, called amigurae. The volume of water inside the body, being that of liquid, has about a thousand times in volume the volume outside. • All of these forms have several sides which constitute the body. In this sense the body is an individual body that has a great number of small cells, called aminuclei, as the body itself. The aminuclei form a whole body and can only be formed via the action of very small cells.
• The human body also has a special sort of matter, called a fluid called the spleen. It contains a large number of tiny vessels which it carries with it all the hormones that are necessary to life and to create a functioning body. • The fluid comes from the blood and it reacts with the blood cells to form the organs of the living.
• The fact that blood vessels move in pairs all over the body is an interesting fact. A small quantity of the normal amount of fluid within the blood can become very large due to any number of causes, such as overhanging or over-fusing the blood vessels or getting lost or infected. In the case of blood vessels this causes problems: an overhanging artery in the spinal arteries causes the blood to move too quickly, with the end of the water being in the wrong direction, as well as overhanging the spleen which causes the blood to sink too slowly.

These studies he did as an apprentice and throughout his life affected his art greatly. His artwork reflects knowledge of the way the human body is made and how it moves. The figures in his drawings are very realistic and proportionate and also show a lot of emotion and movement.
