For years development psychologist have studied the physical, mental, and emotional changes throughout the human life cycle. Their goal is to study the development of humans and whether it changes or ramains the same throughout the life cylcle. Humans undergo different stages. They beging at prenatal development
, then grow into infancy or childhood, mature through adolescence, continue into adulthood, and finally end late adulthood, (Myers, 2004) Many reasearchers have put their opinion on what happens in each of these stages and what the developing person should experience and and undergo. This field is one of the most popular areas of interests for those who study psychology. Freud, Erikson, and Piaget are all well-known thoerists with different ideas concerning human developmemt.
Erik Erikson developmental theorty consisted on eight spychosocial stages in which humans develop through throughout their life span. Each stage determined by the persons age (Sharkey, 1997). It consists of a conflict and a “virtue” (“Erik Erikson”, 2006). The stages consists of Trust vs. Mistrust, Autonomy vs. Shame & Doubt, Initiative vs. Guilt, Industry vs. Inferiority, Identity vs. Role Confusion, Intimacy vs. Isolation, Generativity vs. Stagnation, and Integrity vs. Despair.
Life comenses with conception. Conception starts when the sperm from the male and the egg from the female unite to create a zygote, the begening of life. The zygote implants itself in the lining of the uterus. This commences the period of prenatal development. This period begint at conception and lasts until birth, and approximation of 38 weeks.
