In the short story “The Dammed Human Race” by Mark Twain, Twain makes several points about the creatures that inhabit the Earth. One important point Twain makes in the reading is how Humans, the higher life forms supposedly kill and waste other animals out of sport. While other animals kill only out of utter need, or self-protection. The Earl kills 72 animals and eats 1, leaving the other 71 to waste. On the other hand the anaconda only kills what it needs. Also, only humans torture one another out of spite while the “higher animals” do not. Humans also have displayed indecency, vulgarity, and obscenity, while the “higher animals” do not display these horrible traits. Man is the only animal on Earth that fights in massive numbers, and kills innocent beings; the other animals only fight one on one on matters. Man is the only animal that was made their own species slaves, and has encouraged slavery since the beginning of time. No other animal has owned or has had slaves through the many years that animals have inhabited this planet. In addition, man is the only animal that believes in god and has religion in their lives, while no other creature has a religion or believes in any god. Man is also the only creature that declares his loyalty to land with certain rules and ways of life. Man is willing to kill, lie, and deceit his fellow kind to steal resources and more land for his own greed. Will other animals only fight other animals out of bear necessity, because without more room there will be over population and there will be a dearth of food leading to death. Humans fight because they are greedy and violent. Humans are the only animals that cannot put the differences behind themselves and make friends with others. While other animals can get along with one another just fine.
