The Primary Function of Human Resource ManagementHuman resource management (HRM) identifies the main goals of the organization and then discusses which skills are needed to meet these goals along with which areas are in need of improvement.  “HRM is the part of the organization concerned with the ‘people’ dimension” (DeCenzo & Robbins, 2013, p. 32).  An organization’s strength is derived from the quality of its employees.  Recruiting the right employees is essential to the success of the organization.  HRM’s are responsible for the recruiting and retention of skilled employees.  “HR needs to decide what the relevant job standards are and how to evaluate performance” (DeCenzo & Robbins, 2013, p. 32).  Ensuring a safe work environment for employees is another important function of HRM.  Working in a safe environment helps boost employee morale, which increases productivity and efficiency.  This increase will be reflected positively in the profit margins. Role of Human Resource Management in an Organization’s Strategic PlanThe role of human resource management in strategic planning is important.  “The role of HR in this process is to determine the best way to align the people in the organization so they are best able to assist the organization achieve those goals” (DeCenzo & Robbins, 2013, p. 31).  In order for HRM to be part of strategic planning, they need to know the strategic planning process and take a position on strategic issues.  The information is analyzed by the HRM’s at every stage in the strategic planning process to help in making informed decisions.  HRM’s need to look for any issues that may affect human resources within the organization.  These decisions are based on long-term goals, so the input of HRM’s should be aligned with the decision-making process of the organization.
