Science Article Report: Hurricane Matthew
My article is about the aftermath of Hurricane Mathew and how it affected the states on the East Coast. In Haiti about 1,000 lives were taken because of the Hurricane; There were a few reported deaths in each of the states but most of them were not caused by the Hurricane. In North Carolina, they were facing major flooding and evacuations on top of the power outages. There was major destruction and many people are left without homes, food, and water. Virginia was facing flash floods and a sinkhole that opened up on Route 58 in Pittsylvania County. A state of emergency was declared for Norfolk and Virginia Beach, and all residents were asked to stay off the roads. About 9,000 people were left with power outages.

More than 1 million Florida residents lost power at the height of the storm, but those outages had been reduced to just over 100,000 statewide Monday evening. There was significant flooding damage on roads and the Hurricane managed to create a new inlet between Marineland and Mantanzas Inlet. Sever damage was also found in Summerhaven. Many houses were destroyed, roofs were ripped off, fences blown away, and cars destroyed by falling trees and flooding. During a press conference Saturday morning, Gov. Nathan Deal asked for patience and asked evacuees not to attempt to return to their homes in the six coastal counties where evacuations were mandatory or recommended.

The last state majorly affected was South Carolina. About 500,000 remained without power as of Monday morning. Many houses are destroyed or damaged. At least a foot of water covered a number of roads and power to Hilton Head, which is home to 40,000. According to the AP, many schools will be closed Monday.
