The world needs to pay attention to AIDS because of how deadly the disease is. It kills an estimated 3 million lives a year and is unable to be cured. If you have AIDS and do not die from it you will probably die from another disease. It is because AIDS weakness your immune system that even the common cold could develop into a deadly disease and kill you. AIDS is a gruesome disease that destroys your ability defend yourself against from-disease and infection. Mostly every other disease can be battled with your immune system but because AIDS is a disease that attacks the immune system you are unable to protect yourself. AIDS has been around for many years now and the world seems no closer to a cure. The origins of the disease are not really known other then it developed in Africa. The disease has spread over the years and affects more people each year. Area such as Africa that have a huge AIDS epidemic need immediate help before they are lost to the disease.
First, I was surprised to learn how long AIDS has been around for. The known sample of AIDS is from 1959. It wasnt until June 5 1981 when the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recorded a cluster of recorded a cluster of Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (a disease commonly associated with victims of AIDS and caused by the weaken immune system) that AIDS first officially reported. It was then traced back to Africa. They knew this disease was in Africa and still let it become the monster epidemic it is today. It was surprising how little if any action was taken to try and stop the disease earlier. Second, I was surprised and appalled by AIDS original name GRIDS (Gay-related immune deficiency syndrome). The ignorance of the world to label homosexual men as druggy sex maniacs that are immoral and deserve the disease is disgusting. It like saying because I do not agree with your believes you deserve to die and that is just wrong. Its first victims were even not gay men. So it is ludicrous to say that it is a gay disease. Third, I learned about the AIDS cocktail or HAART. It is an extremely strong combination of drugs used to fight the effects of HIV. It is very expensive and the only
