Imperialism Essay
The battle against tyranny is the dawn of America and the American people. The blood
on the colonistÕs hands were to gain their freedom, to be their own entity against the British. but
now the blood on American hands are from trying to take freedom from others. If this is
AmericaÕs idea of imperialism, then imperialism is hypocrisy. The United States should have not
annexed the Philippines. As Abe Lincoln says, government should not be forced, the people
should have a say in their government, and it contradicts AmericaÕs ideals against tyranny.
Government should not be forced. Document A shows the perspective of the
antiimperialists
who state that government control should be consensual, not taken away
forcefully. If the Philippines is annexed, the whole fundamentals of the American government
and democracy would be overshadowed by such a hypocritical decision like annexing the
Philippines. Document D also suggests that imperialism is like a gun that only induces violence.
Government should be consensual, if not America would be the epitome of hypocrisy.
Annexing the Philippines contradicts AmericaÕs ideals against tyranny. In Document A, Abe
Lincoln addresses that if government is nonconsensual, it is despotism, which leads to tyranny.
Without democracy, AmericaÕs ideals against tyranny are contradicted by annexing the
Philippines.

However, some claim that annexing the Philippines would save them and would be in their
benefit.
