Task 3:
a.) I believe our topic of the concentration of accommodation along Fenton Street was suitable as Rotorua is a tourist hotspot therefore accommodation being a very important aspect of that the data we collected was available in the area we visited e.g. Rotorua, Fenton street. Aspects of our data collection that went well were as a group we worked efficiently. By this I mean we communicated what each member of the group was responsible for doing e.g. pace counting but we also made it clear that if it didnt work on the day that we could change it without problem. We had also drawn our data collection graph before we left for Rotorua. Another aspect that worked well was the amount of different ways we could present our data due to our topic. As we chose concentration it opened up many different graphs such as Kite graphs which are specifically designed for concentration. As with everything we also had aspects that didnt work as well. One aspect that didnt go well was that the day we were to collect the data it was pouring with rain, this made it problematic to record data accurately as the paper we used was getting wet and this cause the ink to either run all over the page or for the pen not to work at all. Another aspect that didnt work too well was the people who were counting the paces both had different variations of pace length; this meant in the data it appeared on side of the road was longer.
b.) an alternative question we could have chosen to do our research on would be “How do the prices of accommodation vary along Fenton Street”. One method we could have used to collect the data would have been to walk Fenton Street and go into each individual accommodation to find out the prices. This would be effective as we would get and accurate price but it would also be problematic as it would be very time consuming. We could also collect the data by still walking down Fenton Street but we could just record the names of accommodation then research using the internet to find out the prices. One strength of this Question would be that we could find a pattern within the data such as if it got more expensive the closer you get to Lake Rotorua. A weakness of this question would be the limited data you would have to use in the presentation, as you wouldnt have pace lengths and such to determine where along Fenton Street the accommodation is located.
c.) After completing my research and having time to review it I conclude that the highest concentration of accommodation along Fenton Street is between 1501 paces and 2400 paces. I feel that my findings were correctly validated by my graphs, photos and map. The results are how I expected them to be but on a tad bigger scale. I did not expect there to be such a gap in the way of total amounts differing on each side. I didnt expect to find there is less accommodation the closer towards Lake
