Java Case
Portability is an important benefit of Java, as java programs can be written on one type of computer and then executed on a wide variety of different computers. Java objects are, conceptually, self-contained units consisting of data (attributes) and procedures (methods), (University of Phoenix, 2011), and thanks to the lack of being tied to a specific operating system or platform due the existence of JVM, or the Java Virtual Machine, Java applets and objects can be widely distributed and used. This feature provides for excellent portability between various systems. Because Java objects are basically self-contained programs that are not platform-specific they can be re-used, saving time and effort in addressing several possible situations. These features of Java are desirable on modern software engineering for a variety of reasons, such as the applicability of Java on the Internet and its ability to run on a variety of platforms all on the same global network, since the Java coding does not have to be tailored to a specific operating system. This aspect of Java is valued by companies trying to market their products to as wide an audience as possible thereby helping to increase sales and exposure for the company and its products.
There exists a large tried and tested library of existing code and applets available for developers, making the process of software development that much more efficient due to not having to write from scratch all code necessary to complete the software.
