Today some families may go weeks without seeing one another, much less make time to spend together. The importance of having family activities, such as camping and traveling, can help to create that missing link. History plays a crucial part in learning about life. Witnessing how wildlife themselves are surviving through the life cycle is an exciting part of camping. Seeing different environments and the perils that all forms of life deal with can really speak volumes for a child just beginning to learn how the world actually operates. In addition, this gives a great learning opportunity to also take in the awe of how long it has taken for lakes and forests to be created. Similarly when traveling to different parts of the world, many different landscapes can be seen. However, this is seen more on a human level by bringing to life the stories that children have read in books, such as the Alamo. Historically speaking, travel can also open up many different cityscapes to understand how some technological marvels and ingenuity were accomplished while going through exhibits like The Smithsonian Museum. History can play a very important part in learning how certain life skills are useful in both activities.
Camping can obviously yield essential skills, such as how to find and provide shelter in an emergency situation. Similarly, hunting or fishing while camping will give a person the missing valuable tools that are needed to survive without the necessity of a supermarket. While learning how to provide shelter and food, these skills may not be as useful when traveling down a highway or overseas. In fact, a more suitable skill is how to find a good deal on travel expenses. Having the ability to save money on trips will likely help the family to be able to enjoy things that they may not have been able to previously afford. In addition, being able to efficiently maneuver through an airport will help a family cut down on lost time while rushing frantically through security. Moreover, this could cut down on the cost of missing a flight that would additionally cause incurred costs that were not planned.
