Every one says history repeats itself over and over in different
situations. The French and American revolutions were very similar in their
demands and end results however were in two different situations. In
both the commoners wanted fair representation in the government and fair
taxation however the French were revolting from a tyrannical government
and the Americans were revolting from a tyrannical mother country.
There were many causes that brought on the American Revolution. A
great deal of the civil unrest was brought on by the French and Indian War.
At the end of the war England had incurred a large dept. Because the
war was fought for the colonists, much of England believed that that they
should be the ones to recoup the great financial loss that England had
suffered. The colonists disagreed, as they saw it the French and Indian
War served to strengthen Englands hold in the colonies, and as British
subjects they should not be held accountable, while those in Britain
paid nothing. Britain taxed them anyway, this caused an uproar from the
colonists, who didnt feel that Britain had a right to tax them with out
their consent, these feelings were fueled by the enlightenment ideas of
Locke and Montesqueu which stated that the government should support
its citizens not hinder them. On July 2, 1776,
