The Joy Luck Club Written by Amy Tan
Hey guys! Howâs going? Itâs glad that I was being chosen by Chris to  write an entry here to share with you guys about the interesting ideas and materials that Iâve come across in our schoolâs curriculum.Weâve done some in-depth reading and research of a novel called, the Joy Luck Club, written by Amy Tan. It highlights some of the issue that cause chinese and America cultures to clash through the interactions between its mother and daughter characters. Hope you guys will find the kinds of cultural clashes in Tanâs book interestingâșIn the story line, four Chinese women born in America explore their past and try to understand their mother- daughter relationships. Their mother were born in china and grew up in Chinese culture and they grew up in American culture.as mothers and daughters grew up in different countries and have different learning and growing environments, they have different values and opinions which lead to their misinterpretations of each other. For example, one of the Chinese rituals that mothers wanted their daughter to learn is obedience. In the novel, one of the mothers complained she was unable to teach her daughter about the Chinese character, how to obey and listen to her parents. However, as the daughters were raised in America, they thought that obedience is not so important as their culture taught them to have their own ideas and values. There are also more reasons that lead to the conflict between the mothers and daughters. And you may find it relatable as conflicts with our parents happen all the time đ You should have a look of the book and find out more interesting things about it, by the way there is also a movie version if it. Please, feel free to leave any comment or feedback on this blog, if you want to know more about the book.
