Culture is an extensive subject matter as it varies over time by location and by age group. Attempting to learn every culture in detail would be close to impossible. Having said that, the first obstacle to overcome is understanding that there are similarities and differences in culture. It is imperative that international managers prepare themselves for an overseas business deal by researching the cultural norms, business etiquette, and the taboos of their foreign business partners. Likewise, it is also crucial to develop strong personal relationships. Culture is a strong determinant of success in business dealings financially or otherwise. It may also be a deciding factor in the way a business is conducted and the speed at which transactions take place. The best rule to follow would be ” research, prepare, and be ready for the unknown.”
