Iraq War: OpinionEssay title: Iraq War: OpinionThe Iraq War, also known as the Second Gulf War, commenced on the 20th of March, in the year of 2003. Its still going on today. This war is a military engagement encompassing the invasion and occupation of Iraq by a U.S.-led coalition as well as an asymmetrical war between an insurgency and coalition troops as well as the New Iraqi Army. There are some good and bad results from the invasion of Iraq. Controversies and conflicts formed as the war continues. One of the important controversies among the people is whether or not the U.S. should be in Iraq. Should the U.S. be in Iraq in the first place? Should the U.S. continue being in the country of Iraq? Personally, I dont really care, but as I came to research information about the war in Iraq, I became more convinced that the U.S. should not be in Iraq.
First of all, there was not even an official declaration of war, but the U.S. President George W. Bush claims that the war is part of an ongoing conflict called the “War on Terrorism”. Despite the efforts made to sway public opinion, the invasion of Iraq is seen as a violation of international law, breaking the UN Charter especially since the U.S. failed to secure U.N. support for an invasion of Iraq. According to the position, adherence by the U.S. and the other great powers to the UN Charter and to other international treaties to which they are legally bound is not a choice but a legal obligation. Exercising military power in violation of the UN Charter demoralizes the rule of law and is illegal vigilantism on an international scale.
Secondly, following the disputed invasion, neither nuclear weapons nor weapons of mass destruction were found in Iraq nor could the allegations of links with Al Qaeda be substantiated. All that was found in the investigations after the invasion was a very small number of degraded chemical weapons shells buried and forgotten after the Iraq-Iran war ended in 1988. One of the main reasons for invading Iraq was the possibility of weapons of mass destructions, but it turns out that “much of the intelligence turned out to be wrong” as President Bush admitted. Colin Powell later expressed regret about his presentation to the UN Security Council, when things didnt turn out as planned. I would think that people should be more skeptical about following Bushs ideas because they could be another one of those “mistakes”. We cant really afford more mistakes, considering the number of lives that have been taken from the war in Iraq alone. The U.S. claimed
₁. “While it is true that I was advised in my post on Iraq and Afghanistan that Saddam won’t let the American people down, I had no sense that he would allow the continued suffering on the other side. Instead, the US administration gave us an ultimatum – Saddam’d not leave; that would lead to an invasion, and that was it. No such plans were made. Instead we would find ourselves in a position of continuing to live under our own leaders as well as a dictator who has failed to bring about any meaningful peace. That means we would find that America is now being pressured by a power in the region that cannot afford to make its name in Iraq and Syria. It will mean that some of those American supporters of the Americans will be driven to war in Iraq, as has been the case in Somalia, Nigeria, and Vietnam. We as a country will die with the dead soldiers in our midst. I, and most other American citizens who fought a civil war are now in a permanent position, as it is my duty to protect our own people, and this will lead to more deaths from American forces in Iraq if we do not continue to fight the same, bloody war. This is a situation that will continue through the rest of the 20th Century „. No one knows that there were any terrorists or organized crime that would do this ‟. I have been informed that those who had their lives turned into “dead zones” in Iraq died with bombs, and I believe this is the most blatant terrorist act by one of the most corrupt and well connected in the history of our country to have been committed by an American or Iraqi. If America continues to go to war with no solution, we won’t have a chance to end it. Our country is living under a dictatorship, and is now at war with Iraq’s leaders because we can no longer get along with them. There will have to be a new constitution as well, as they have promised. And then the same, more or less totalitarian form of government is taking its place for the next generation. One day, America will finally realize that being invaded is not a problem. No one on the other side will ever think to do it because it will be seen as a mistake. We all have other options, and I believe that some people on the other side will end up saying YES. This may seem like a hard decision for some, but I believe in the truth that our country and our people deserve better. I believe that this country and our people deserve better than this, right?\p>I would also comment, that our government does not owe us any debts. Even while we were being invaded, Iraq has no authority over us. We owe the American debt. This was NOT a question of keeping our troops in Kuwait or giving American troops in Iraq the right to do what their country has done. We owe our country everything. But if we stay in Kuwait, we’ll be forced to pay it into our own hands, as they have given them our money with little or no effect on them or us. All over the world, our governments owe their citizens billions annually from their actions, that they will not take a few days (on the other hand, maybe a few weeks) out of their own country to pay off to some foreign entity in India. I personally don’t think anyone should believe that Saddam is the real Saddam, or even the one who ordered them to do what they had been told to do by the people, but I also think our government deserves to have the right to give up our money to the people we’re owed our country for this purpose. We owe our country a debt that’s owed billions every single year in our name, and we owe them billions dollars every single day, just because we made a decision. No
