I love this study because it makes me feel better about not going to an Ivy league school. Why waste the money and stress when I can get just as good an education somewhere else? I think studies have also shown that Harvard isnt really all that spectacular a school; many others do just as well or better at educating their students. Harvard is considered a top school only because it accepts people who are bound for success anyways. I read a book once called Looking Beyond the Ivy League, written by the same guy who wrote Colleges that Change Lives. It talks about the advantages to a small, liberal arts education versus a university education. Some of the advantages that I remember include a sense of community, professors instead of TAs, much more assistance and care for each student, higher acceptance, and less cost. Also, the kids are probably a lot nicer since they dont always need to be at the top, unlike many who attend Ivy schools. I guess the study didnt surprise me since I already know that Ivys are basically a waste of time unless you want the prestige that goes along with the Harvard brand name. In any case, regardless of whether I would have been accepted to “better” schools or not, Im going to St. Olaf because I know that it will give me just as good an education and Ill have a lot more fun. and um yea thats about it
