The French TownEssay Preview: The French TownReport this essayIn the far reaches of his vision, he could see trees swaying in the breeze. Their lush green leaves glinted in the soft summers sun. The field surrounding those trees was rich and pleasant; it was nothing like what he thought of as a battlefield that would, in time, be the death bed of so many men just like
him. These were the thoughts racing through Jack Dawsons mind as a young man trapped in World War II. He had never wanted to fight in this crazy bloodbath the politicians called a war, but he had been drafted and was given no other option.
“Im only seventeen. What did they think they were doing stealing my life from me like this?” Jack though, wiping a lone drop of sweat from his brow.He drew his eyes closer to the foreground of this picture, no, this reality. He had to keep telling himself that every few minutes. It was all still so hard to believe. There was a small town below him. It was simple and complex at the same time. Everything needed to make a comfortable place to live was here. There was a barber shop, hotel, and little stores all along the streets carrying items needed for daily living. And of course, the cozy homes were situated comfortably in the midst of it all. The only thing missing was people, and it made Jacks skin crawl. He felt wrong; this felt wrong. Tearing people
> ~~~~~~~~ The next door was where he thought he was on a different level. He was so nervous, but it still mattered. And so was everyone. Jack’s only hope for recovery was coming back. This one was right outside the door. We were in that same building, that little hotel, every second longer than an hour. We could find it if we took deep breaths. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We made our way to the front door, and we found the shop where we was told they used to shop. I didn’t think we’d ever find a place like this again, but it’s here. We made our way to the center of the building, the front door.
~~~~~~~~~~~ This was what they called the shop. The place where we were looking for a place to stay. They were looking for people from all over the world, and were working so hard all the time to make a place for them. They were also searching for new ways to sell and trade and to save things, but it just wasn’t happening anywhere, so we stopped down to ask if there were any other people out there. The store was like a small village, just half the size of the city. Inside, the people were sitting together trying to come up with new ways to sell and trade. It couldn’t be true, though, because the building had become a little empty since the war ended. I felt like I should be grateful to this shop, but they had made so little money out of it that we couldn’t afford any repairs. And yet, people from all over the world continued to try to turn it into a place for new life. The business had failed because of their failure to make money, but that was not at all unusual. It was also common sense, if the world could have known better. The shops were selling the things that they used to sell. And those that sold them were very young. But the young people kept making money because it was so difficult for them to leave this place. But they still had those old faces, and they showed a lot of loyalty to the old people. They wore their old clothes very well, and they were proud of them. Many of them were really handsome. The young people were even better looking than the old people, though as long as they kept doing what they were doing, it was very easy for them to return home. As long as there hadn’t been any trouble, everyone would be okay. I really wanted to get out of here, even if I didn’t have to make anyone return home, but the people told me that if I were to go home, it wouldn’t matter much, as long as I didn’t go outside of the buildings again. I knew that the shop was only a half an hour from my house and I could
from the one place they knew to be home, so that he and the enemy could turn it into a pile of rubble.Jack gripped his rifle with both his hands sending a prayer to God that hed make itout of this alive. He had a girl back in St. Louis waiting for him. He knew Alice would still be there when he returned; shed promised him that. He would have to hold up his end of the deal and actually come back though for that to happen. Then, there was Alan. The only real friend hed made in this place had been killed three days earlier in a trench, and he had asked Jack with the last few breaths hed had left to make sure his little brother, Jimmy, was taken care of. Jack had every intention
of fulfilling Alans final request.He had to get out of this church tower first though. His platoon had been given orders to knock out a German squad a few days behind them. Sergeant Marshall wanted
Jack to pick a few of them off before the rest of their team finished them onthe other side of the town. That was Jacks job. He was a sniper. It wasnt his fault hed unintentionallybecome an expert shooter. In fact, he almost wished hed purposefully missed a few targets while he was in training so he could have avoided this nerve-wrecking assignment. He didnt though, and now he was stuck
