Jesus Washes the Disciples FeetJesus’ point in this teaching was that no person is better than any other person and we are to love and show respect to one another just as Jesus loves us. He says that all people will know we are his disciples if we have love for one another. This is saying that if we do not love everyone, and that means everyone from the janitor to the CEO then how can we be recognized as Christians? Jesus wants us to wash others feet just as he washed theirs, even if it is not our “job.” This shows how merciful Jesus is and makes me want to be a better person because of it. We should love one another, and if the one’s we love come to us in need, we ought to give to them what we can.

What sort of relevance does this teaching have for other worldviews? This teaching is relevant to other worldviews because many other religions believe that you should love one another just as Jesus loves us. Most worldviews that I know have this same belief and love their brothers along with their enemies. I believe even an atheist can love everyone the same even though they do not believe in Jesus Christ. What does this teaching reveal about Jesus? This teaching reveals Jesus’ divine humanity, and that he is willing to do whatever it takes to show his love for us. Jesus knew he was the son of God and that he was soon going to return to God in heaven. He decided to wash the disciple’s feet to let them know they should all wash one another’s feet. Jesus, this mighty teacher and Lord was willing to get on his knees and wash their feet just to teach a lesson, and if that does not explain how great he is I am not sure what does. Underline the passage chosen. What is the significance of this claim?In this passage Jesus heals the paralytic and he is able to walk again. The significance of this claim was not entirely about Jesus making the paralytic walk again but to prove to the scribes that he is just as capable as God. He first told the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven” and everyone questioned his capability of saying and doing such a thing. So to prove a point Jesus said to them “which is easier, to say ‘your sins are forgiven’, or to say ‘Rise, take up your bed and walk’?” So to prove he had the authority to forgive him of his sins, he did just that and told the man to get up and walk, and so he did and everyone was amazed. This shows just how loving and forgiving Jesus is and that he is there for us, as long as we stand up for him. Jesus was sent to Earth to teach us and minister and save us, to tell us about God in heaven and give us something to look forward to.
