Team Building
Several years ago at my workplace, job motivation was very low and when the economy turned bad motivation just continued to fall to its lowest point. During this period many of the employees wasnt satisfied with their jobs and had little motivation to excel, this resulted in the organization not benefiting because productivity fell. People at my organization were use to how thing were in the past where there were many incentives for doing a job well done. It would seem that rewarding employees was the great motivator. An individual employees job satisfaction and productivity is connected to the motivation the job offers the employee. When the jobs are stipulating individuals empowerment they will develop loyalty, productivity and satisfaction, when satisfaction is at low the company suffers.
On individuals reviews if you exceeded far about your duties you would not only get a pay raise put you would also get a bonus check. Each individual would excel in their areas of work to make sure that the customers were provided with great service and their quality of work enhanced at high levels. As the years have past management has changed several times and these incentives have gone away. Then with the new management a new incentive program was offered if you worked on a project and you went above and beyond to provide quality service someone could nominate you for incentive rewards if your nomination was accepted you would receive a bonus check as a reward. After a short time management changed again and due to the economy failing this program came to an end, now people felt like they had nothing to work for, forgetting that they were still getting paid for services rendered. To the make matters worse many of the employees looked at management as uncaring, they saw management hiring new employees with big salaries when the employees were told that a hiring freeze was in place and there will be no pay increases. The motivation of the employees fell because they felt like their work went unnoticed and unappreciated. However, the management team came up with an idea to help motivate employees by having a social gathering. They asked each employee within the departments to contribute to the event. There were many employees excited about the event that included games and many prizes. Some employees thought this event was a good idea and some were not as happy about the event and they did not participate. There comments were they had no money to spend or everyone must participate if the event was to be successful. Employers have to find ways of making their employees happy. How do you motivate employees?
The equity theory of motivation should be considered for this type of situation. The equity theory is a model of motivation that explains how people strive for fairness and justice in social exchange or give-and-take relationships
