Off-the-job training methods are adopted for the development of employees away from the field of the job. It includes more general skills and knowledge useful for work, as well as job-specific training. It is a method where full concentration is on learning rather than performing.
Advantage of Off-the-job training
1. The trained employees come back to their actual workstation where they maintain high productivity.
2. The employees get training outside their parent company. They learn new things there and implement in their main company to minimise the production error.
3. Off-the-job training happens for a large number of employees. SO, this type of training system is economical.
4. When new hires stay away from the production unit, then there is less chance of loss incurred by the company and the costly errors minimised.
5. A large number of people can get training simultaneously.
6. In this method, a significant amount of information transfer during a short time. So, training requires less time.
Disadvantage of Off-the -Job training
1. Off-the-job training detaches employees entirely from their workplace. Since the entire course happens in a place outside the workplace, the employees find uncomfortable when they return to their work.
2. Many employees take training under this method. Some dont pay attention during the course; thereby the company is making huge waste of money and time to such employees.
3. During training hours, many employees were out from their workplace. Due to the scarcity of human resources, the production rate falls. The training puts an extra burden on others who are involved in the manufacture.

1. Lecture and Conference
Lecture and Conference are the most traditional way of instruction. All training programs start with a lecture, followed by presentations. These lectures help in creating motivation and interest among trainees. It reinforces trainers credibility and authority. This method is straightforward, and lots of material can be presented within given time.
There are a few demerits of this type of training. It is one-way communication with relatively less participation or passive participation. People arent able to pay attention for a longer time.
