Abigail Smith Adams was born in November 11, 1744 at Weymouth Massachusetts. She was part of a family with great prestige in the colony. Abigail was an intelligent woman, but like all women of her time she lacked formal education. She was married to John Adams in 1764. They lived in a farm in Boston. She was a well-read woman and a keen observer of colonial life. Her and her husband carried on a lively communication when he was away from home.
They both loved each other dearly and made a good husband and wife. She filled the difficult role of wife of the first United States minister to Great Britain. Abigail Adams lived with John Adams in their Quincy. She was the first lady because of her husband, John. Since he was the president she became knows as the first lady. When John Adams was vice president, Abigail Adams became good friends with Mr. Washington. She was a valued help with official entertaining. Which was because of her great experience of courts and
