John Smith
Johns Smiths story taught us two things, love can be found in unexpected places, and you should be very careful who you trust. John Smith, a European soldier, had many great characteristics and he believed in everyone joining together. Smith was quick witted, had great physical ability, was a great commander, and was very lucky. In 1597 when he was eighteen years of age he ventured to the Netherlands, calling it the “university”. After his visitation he declared on self-improvement. He then arrived back in Virginia getting captured by a tribe of Virginia Indians in 1607. Using his amazing characteristic as a commander he got them to free him by showing them the magical powers of his compass. After being freed for a short period of time he then got abducted again, this time with threats of execution. The execution then came and he was saved by a woman named Pocahontas. After being freed for the second time he boarded ship to Rome. Smith got thrown over board because it turns out he was on board with Catholic pilgrims. He returns back to Virginia and sparks up his friend ship with Pocahontas. His friendship with her has had an enormous impact on the interracial communications. Smith first open traded with the Indians due to Pocahontas. He was the first one who explored the Chesapeake Bay. Eventually Smith retired his position of power and started to build a home. At one point, gun powder exploded on his face, resulting in bad burns, sending him to the hospital. While in the hospital his enemies tried to kill him at his weakened state, but failed. This was the last time John Smith ever saw Virginia again. He moved back to Europe were he had first ventured from to find new places and new people. Smiths love with Pocahontas showed people back then that you did not have to love only your tribe or group. You could go out of your comfort zone and make connections with other people. He had a hard time trusting the Indians because they kept on capturing him, as well as the failure of his murder in the hospital. All in all Smith survived all of the tempted murders and died a happy man.
