In the book, Ponyboy has brown (almost red) hair, greenish-gray eyes, and long greaser locks. He says that his hair is longer then most boys and that it is long at the front and sides, but squared off in the back.
Dally is shown robbing the store and being wounded in the movie, In the book it tells you that he has robbed the store via telephone, and he is not wounded.When Dally died in the book he died before he fell to the ground and in the movie he died when he was on the ground. In the movie it shows Dally chasing kids who are playing cards, this did not mention in the book.
He did not tell cherry what happens to Johnnys face in the movie, but told her in the book.

The Socs and Greasers are rivals, although the public eyes goes by looks so they dont realize the Socs are the ones causing trouble because the Socs dress nice and the Greasers have greasy hair and ripped clothes. In the book, the Socs are from the westside and the greasers are from the southside. In the movie, the sides are north and south.
Ponyboy struggles with his expectations for Soda. He is self-conscious about the fact that Soda has dropped out of school, and he wants him to finish his education. Soda did not do well in school, did not like school, and is perfectly content to work in a gas station that he loves. Soda also believes that he is doing the right thing by helping to support his family. Pony doesnt care about any of those facts; he just wants Soda to go back to
