Joseph Smith – Lds Church Case
History:In the summer of 1820, a young boy named Joseph Smith was searching for answers on which church he should join so be began to pray.  He lived in an area near Palmyra, in western New York. He then started to tell people the story of what he witnessed the account has since been published in Joseph Smith’s Testimony. The pamphlet tells of how he saw “two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description…” The Church called for a “restoration” of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. As church membership grew bigger so did the number of the people who opposed the LDS church. In 1844 Joseph Smith was martyred for his unwavering faith in the Mormon Church. In 1847, after the death of the prophet Joseph Smith the Latter-day Saints began to head westward steeling in valley of the Great Salt Lake. To this day the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is based in Salt Lake City, Utah.  The two most prominent figures in the church history are Joseph Smith and Brigham Young. Joseph Smith was the first prophet of the church and was born in 1805 in Sharon, Vermont. He is recognized by the by Latter-day Saints as the man god chose to “restoration” his Gospel. Brigham Young was born in 1801 in Whitingham, Vermont. He was seen as the second Prophet of the Church. He was first part of, what is known as, the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in 1835. He was then recognized or Sustained as the prophet of the Church on December 27, 1847. Construction was started on the Salt Lake, St. George, and Logan temples under his leadership.
Basic Tenets of Belief:1. Trinitarian belief in God – God the Father, His son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit.2. Men will be punished for their own sins, not for Adam’s transgression.3. Through the atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.4. First principles and ordinances of the Gospel◾Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ◾Repentance◾Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins◾Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost5. A man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.6.Belief in the same organization that existed in the primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.7.Belief in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.8.Belief that the Bible is the word of God as far as it is translated correctly. The Book of Mormon is also believed to be the word of God.9.Belief in all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and belief that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.
