Orwell made readers sympathize for all the animals except the pigs, so that the book could truly represent Joseph Stalin as a dictator and the people that suffered under his ruling. All the animals had a hard time after the revolution, except the pigs. Their intelligence and proximity to humans made them stand out, and rule the other animals. They became evil, cold hearted, human like, dictators. Once Napoleon took over, life for the other animals was never the same. They worked more, ate less, had to encounter many injustices, and were even killed. Napoleon made them work harder and harder in order to prove to the other farm owners that the farm was doing great. All he wanted was a good image, even if that would cost the other animals health and well being. He manipulated animals into thinking that they were receiving more food, and into agreeing with whatever was decided. He also made many adjustments to the commandments, which only favored the pigs life. Like Stalin, Napoleon also killed others that would slow things down for him. These set of changes and manipulations worsened the animals life creating a feeling of compassion for the animals misery. Orwell showed how Napoleons dictatorship affected the other animals that were not like him. It brought readers to feel compassion towards the other animals misery and pain. Orwell made readers sympathize with all the animals except the pigs, to give readers a fictional way of how life under Stalins ruling was like for the population that did not favor Stalin and his government. In this case the only ones that favored Napoleons ruling was the other pigs. Since they were pigs Napoleon already assumed that they were equally smart so they got to benefit from his ruling. Orwell created a feeling of sympathy towards the other animals in order to truly represent Stalins ruling.
