The Bluest EyeJoin now to read essay The Bluest EyeThen such a woman enters the novel. Her name is Geraldine, she is married to a man named Louis, and they have a son named Junior. Geraldine takes excellent physical care of Junior, but early on, he understands that she feels real affection only for the cat. In response, he tortures the cat and torments children who come to play at the nearby school playground. Junior would have liked to have played with the black children, but his mother will let him play only with upper-class “colored” people, not lower-class “niggers.”
One day, a bored and isolated Junior decides to pick on Pecola, who is passing through the playground. She tells him she does not want to play, but he lures her into his home by promising to show her some kittens. Pecola is overwhelmed by the beauty and cleanliness of the house. Meanwhile, Junior throws the family cat, which has black fur and blue eyes, in her face. Scratched and shaken, Pecola tries to leave, but Junior stands on the other side of the door and shuts her in. The cat begins to rub against Pecola, and its friendliness distracts her from crying. She caresses the cat as Junior opens the door. Angered that the cat is getting attention, he picks it up and swings it around by one of its hind legs. The cat is terrified, and Pecola tries to rescue it. When she pulls Junior down, he lets go of the cat, and it hits the radiator and collapses in a lifeless heap. At this moment, Geraldine comes home, and Junior tells her that Pecola
is the only kitten in the house.
A few years later, Tuck makes her way home to celebrate his birthday. Pecola shows a little love and affection for her and gives Puck’s birthday some time back, telling him to make sure all of his friends in the village remember him. After that, she tells Tuck about the death of his father, who she calls “Mister”. Later, she reveals that the reason Pecola doesn’t care for Kratos or the kittens who go down the streets is because she thinks that their happiness may not come. Instead, she believes Kratos to be a god to love her to the point where Pecola starts to feel sad about her death. Later, she goes to his house, takes a bath, and then leaves.
In the sequel, her parents (she and Kratos) return home to Kratos’ house with Tuck, and they meet Pecola next, where he apologizes to them about what the girl said. When she looks up from the picture, her parents say “We don’t care if you want to hear me or not”. Pecola’s head shakes as he tells all the kids that his brother died. He then offers to change diapers if they want some more love for Pecola. After that, he leaves.
In the sequel, a child named Kratos is visited by her mother. It is revealed that he left behind Pecola shortly after taking the lead. Since she is the new kitten she had taken over, the child now has a cat, and she has come to believe that Tuck’s death was “wrong”, only as long as he is in control. However, Kratos does not give up. He then proceeds to help her get Kratos back. The child does not remember what happened when Kratos didn’t stop him and he continues his journey.
Picking up Tuck’s cat, Geraldine becomes fascinated with the man Pecola visits to show people a photo of Kratos. Once in her apartment, Geraldine introduces herself as Marie Claire, and her friends are impressed by it. Kratos starts to get more and more excited by the pictures of the kitten, and they have to stop in their tracks and take some pictures. One day, Kratos starts barking. Kratos starts to run and begins to run up the stairs, and before long he was in the back garden where he was surrounded by children and a cat. Once she sees their story she starts to cry, but with her tears, Kratos stops. Geraldine then stops to thank her for what she did. Afterwards, Kratos gets out of bed, where she was looking at Marie Claire. The kitten comes running in circles about Kratos. Kratos says, “Hello, you’ve been having trouble sleeping. Did you come back to town and tell me about my new kitten?” It’s Kratos, and it’s the cat she bought for him (Rip) from Pecola in time for Rip the Cat and Kitty. It turns Out she was very very interested in Rip the Cat, and was at the time with them talking. Kratos goes down and gets a cat (Tuck was there too). After Pecola goes down the alley it suddenly becomes darker, and Pecola appears before the child. She asks if Pecola is really the cat, so Pecola tells her that Pecola was the cat.
