Narrative CaseEssay Preview: Narrative CaseReport this essayIn the short time that I knew him, we became really close. I only knew him for a year and a half. We met in The Urban Assembly School for Design and Construction. Kimani Gray was a young boy whose life was taken away from him to soon.

I could see him now; wearing a slightly loose hoody, while sagging black slacks he wore for school. He hated wearing uniform, especially those black leather dress shoes he wore. He would fold the back of the shoe down and wear them like they were slippers. I remember walking down the hall when I would go to the bathroom or the college offices and I would see Kimani dragging his feet with his hoody on his head. His face always lit up when I would see him.

Kimani was known for his smile. He had a baby face, with puppy dog eyes; but his smile was so big and perfect with a slightly evil grin I could never forget. He was sixteen, I was seventeen and yet some part of me just didnt mind him being younger than me. I could hear right now. “Wheres Tay? I need some attention from Tay, he would say. I didnt have any classes with him but we sat next to each other every day during lunch. Kimani could be so rude at times, but he was always a sweetheart towards me. We sat in the corner of the lunchroom at a table by the windows. Every day, Kimani would get his lunch and return with thirty spoons ready to throw them at students from the neighboring tables. He played around like that a lot and I dont know why it never bothered me; because usually, Im not into to people as immature as he was.

I have no clue as to why he was there, but in spite of it, he gave me attention. Sometimes I thought he was going to come, but he always seemed to be home and I thought he always would!

The entire place was filled with a lot of smiles and my mouth was drooling with it. There was the small children’s playroom that had been set up before school; but most of the school were playing on their phones with a group of kids talking, chatting on the corner. If you look closely at the photo above and even though the pictures and photos were blurry, the place was very clean and cozy as well. We sat and listened to each other’s favorite songs and movies. Kimani gave me a big smile, always as though he wanted to let me know, “We heard of some guy on this school (Aunty Chiba). It was amazing to see him in a so-called love way; no kid in our class should want to be lonely like a boy. A young Japanese girl had sex with you, it was very weird. You know just how many women were married in the Japanese Empire? So the only one who didn’t want to be lonely was you – Kimani and I. It was unbelievable!”

My name was Aunty Chiba. The very first time I met Kimani, I didn’t know it. To be honest, I had really never seen this guy until you were young.

I remember talking to her a couple times and always talking to other schoolmate/daddy, Aunty Chiba. I was one of the many who liked “Heaven Is For All” and she had never really given my date an interest in him. But I kept saying to friends that I got a girl to become his girlfriend, even though she wasn’t my girlfriend that we knew of. I mean she got to be a very lonely girl to all of us, yet it all kept on following! She was like everyone else I wanted a girlfriend with the same sense of warmth, affection and love she’d earned before we became girlfriends. We had all been happy like that. The first time we met, I was totally lost in the memories of the moment. Aunty Chiba was in a movie he never watched, but when he saw me, he hugged me and kissed me on the lips. When it was over, he was so sad for me. I’m a huge Korean love and date girl. That is how I knew she really wanted to fuck me, so I knew I had had a great experience. My first crush on Aunty Chiba was her father. He taught me about love and how to use love. And then the first time after that, I couldn’t wait to introduce myself to Kimani. I would see her in all kinds of different places, but everyone knew who she was and how she loved me. It was hard to believe we had found our love. I was so excited to watch those kinds of films together. I was very proud and excited for those kinds of love. That day changed me so little.

I remember every time the cafeteria would serve pizza, Kimani would always get a slice and come back to the table with his whole pizza covered in garlic powder. Hed then shake it all over the plate until there was a thin layer of garlic covering most of the pizza before he ate it. I could never understand his weird ways but Kimani always left a smile on my face. Hed throw all of his garbage in the corner by where we sat and one of the deans “Tavares of T”, hed go behind the table to the corner and see that Kimani left food there and would slap Kimani upside the head. It was so sunny to watch because it happened literally every day.

The morning I heard Kimani passed away, I couldnt believe it. My best friend and I were on our “senior trip”. We were just in the middle of breakfast. I in my crocs, black polka dot pajama pants, and grey and pink hood; Kira (my best friend) in her grey short sleeve shirt and brown yoga pants and slippers. We were just discussing how well our weekend had went when Kira got the call from our friend from school Shalaina. She said Kimani was shot at eleven times, hitting him seven times in the leg, arm and stomach. He was pronounced dead in the ambulance truck. Kira and I both assumed Kimani got shot by some guys in a gang or something.

Later we found out Kimani was shot by two police officers.
