The three companies I did observe were Wal -Mart, McDonalds, and Applebees. Two of them are restaurants and the other is grocery/ retail store. The nature of the Wal-Mart is to sell a little of everything to a lot of customers, With McDonalds is to sell hamburgers and breakfast. The Applebees is to be able to provide good food with a relaxing place to get drinks for its customers can enjoy and relax. The ways the employees are organized is in different ways because they are set up different. With McDonalds and Applebees they two have smaller types of buildings so they have to have everything they need by their work stations to be able to get the food out to their customers so they do not have to wait. With Wal-Mart its set up on a bigger scale and they need to know where everything is and who is working it each area. When I did talk to a Wal-Mart employee who was a cashier/ sales floor person. She said it was hard to be organized because every shift she was in a different area. With each shift it was not always the same and they were not always trained right. At Applebees our waitress was nice and we always have the same one, she said she comes in and gets everything she needs ready before the rush gets there and her customers are happy even when the food comes out wrong she tries to make it right.

The one cost that is needed in any business is the training that it takes to do the job. The cost that effects the OMM operations is that after paying out all the cost then the left over will the profit the business will be making. When you control the cost and monitor it the company should be able to make the product and keep the business going.
The ways companies design their operating systems to give them a competitive advantage is the small-batch production to be able to customize products that is needed for their customers. The mass production it to use the computer machines and operating techniques and to be able to control the work going forward. This allows the customers to reduce their operating cost and to lower the product price. Then there is the flexible
