There are several core problems within the Goodman Company that have been disrupting the work environment in the plant and the productivity also. The core problems are lack of leadership and the organizational structure within the company. These two core problems are found throughout the whole company and eventually produce satellite problems which affect the business negatively. These satellite problems affect the three production shifts in the plant differently as there are different individuals, and leadership and group formation within the shifts.
The first shift negative respond to the change affected production and outputs decreased. Within the first shift, lack of leadership and the poor implementation of Ms. Bennet’s plan were the cause. The workers complained about the new production process, the specialization, as the process doesn’t properly established the next step of production therefore, the products aren’t readied properly. With this confusion, drawbacks on made in production for the workers to understand the production process. Also the lack of motivation from the supervisor on the implementing of the new changes didn’t help the workers either.
The supervisor, Mr. Anthony, is a loyal employee and worked with the company for years but don’t have good leadership skills to significantly influence the employees’ performance. Leadership is defined as the process of influencing and controlling activities of a group to achieve a given task. However, Mr. Anthony have a laissez- faire “let it be” leadership style which he applied to his work. Laissez-faire is defined as “a type of leadership which is a philosophy or practice categorized by a deliberate abstention from instructions or interference, especially with the individual being responsibilities for their own job” (Gill, 2015). Mr. Anthony doesn’t have to work since he inherited money from his brother-in-law who died and he is close to retirement as he worked for several years at Goodman Company already. He have either develop or always had a laissez-faire style and spent most of his time not doing his jobs, taking extensive trips around the country seeking a perfect place to retire and taking extra days from his holiday with a day before and after. He doesn’t contribute to his jobs anymore as he only interested in retirement and his lack of present does unnoticed by top management. His absent, leave the workers responsibility for their own jobs as he believed they are very knowledgeable about the machinery and equipment, however this leave rooms for errors in machinery which
