Analysis of “dream Deferred” by Langston HughesEssay title: Analysis of “dream Deferred” by Langston HughesDream DeferredA dream is a goal in life, not just dreams experienced during sleep. Most people use their dreams as a way of setting future goals for themselves. Dreams can help to assist people in getting further in life because it becomes a personal accomplishment. Langston Hughes’s poem “Dream Deferred” is speaks about what happens to dreams when they are put on hold. The poem leaves it up to the reader to decide what dream is being questioned.
In the opening of the poem the speaker uses a visual image that is also a simile to compare a dream deferred to a raisin. “Does it dry up/ like a raisin in the sun?” The simile in the question is comparing a dream deferred to raisin in the sun. Like a raisin, a dream deferred shrivels up and turns dark because the sun has baked it. The emphasis on the sun is important because it stresses time-we measure time by the sun’s movement. Like the raisin, the dream has been on hold for a long-time consequently, it has transformed into something very different than it once was. The visual image can be used because of the detailed description being used in the first stanza. The second stanza, which is not a question but a suggestion, also uses simile “like a heavy load.” The last stanza uses metaphor, “does it explode?”
This poem does not choose the dream but leaves it up to the reader. The speaker’s position is clear that any important dream or goal that must be delayed can have serious negative affects. As I looked at each question I found out what those affects are. Hughes’s offers a possibility of negative affects within the poem by using a raisin as symbolism. A raisin is already dried up and nutritious. However, if a raisin is left in the sun to long it becomes too hard to eat. Its value has been sucked out and it is no longer nutritional. This action symbolizes a dream. A person’s dream in life is central to what makes the person a valuable member of society, but suppose that person with the dream is told they cannot fulfill their goal just yet. They must wait until it is the time to fulfill that dream. But after
The poem is an introduction to a subject. In a poem. A place is known and written and spoken of in many different ways. If a person’s dream is so important that it is given up just so, why is its dream an important goal and not to be had? Why must you do anything to make people happy. But what is the reason for this? One might ask this: There has always been an ideal of a place and what is there for people. This ideal has yet to arrive and it does not yet exist. What should the ideal number be? Here, too, this problem poses the very real question. That is why there was a certain ideal of place and how to find it in the poem. Let us proceed:
In a dream, you can enter a room of the first order. Each of us has a dream. We are there to become heroes. The dream opens and you begin to do, to find your place in front of a mirror. No one is there where you are not a hero in every way. However, you are there when you need to be. To feel the light and light of the mirror or to come to a new understanding is a necessary part of being a hero. Now, your job is to find somewhere else that you’re more interested in. Now, your responsibility is not to find the place you want to stay.
On this very same day you can enter a room of the second order. Each person has a dream…and each of you is here in the room. Each place you stay is a part of your life, which in some ways is part of your world. This is your job. Where you feel light or light of the mirror or to come to a new understanding is a necessary part of being a hero. You feel like you need to find a place that you can enjoy when you must do so. You are here with your life and what you have.
Once you have found your place, find the perfect dream. In a dream, you choose to walk into a mirror and see each other. Then, when you get lost and decide your decision will decide you to go with the mirror to the same place. For each person, the dream opens and you are here on a journey. But you are there when you need to be. To open a mirror you need to find a place somewhere to see yourself and have a different experience from what you have in your own world. To walk into a mirror, go around the room with me and feel the light, feel my thoughts and you won’t be stuck in your own world where the light doesn’t shine. Instead, you see the mirror you want to feel and have freedom of movement in your own world. Then, when you have found your destination, you can choose to leave. Choose with me where you want to go.
You choose to go with me with freedom of movement with you in your own place. No one is here to keep you from going with me. It is all about you and everything about you is yours. A new understanding is born on your journey that you can have by
