In “Teaching the iGeneration”, Larry D. Rosen suggests that the society should take advantage of the students immersion in technology into education. In the passage, she uses pathos and logos to persuade the audiences that technology is beneficial to the new-generation students.
Rosen uses pathetic appeal in her experiences in the paragraphs of introduction, including the stories of how kids search information from web resources, how kids know to fix technological tools better than adults, how kids good at using those tools and how kids explore the new features of the cellphone which their parents dont expect them to know. The stories of Rosens experiences make the audiences have the feeling of love towards technology. They will think technology allows kids to access information faster, increase their problem-solving skills and increase their creativity. Audiences will build a good impression towards technology before Rosen starts her arguments.
Besides, Rosen uses the method of “supporting a generalization with examples” in making logical argument. In the body paragraph with subtitle: How School Need to Respond, Rosen first tells us what is not about using technology in education. Then, she gives a general idea in how technology can be used in education and followed by specific details and examples, like audios and videos. She also uses the same method in illustrating that technology does benefit education by first providing research finding of Demonstration projects that technology make class to be more productive and then followed by giving specific examples on how students spend their time during class.
