Prompt 1Overcoming ShynessThroughout my life I have always been known as the quiet shy girl and when I entered high school the situation aggravated. Any sort of public speaking, from answering a question in class to the dreaded presentations in front of everyone was enough to give me anxiety. I realized that I didnt want to have to go through my last two years of high school constantly living in fear of public speaking. During the first semester of junior year, I enrolled in IB classes and, surprisingly, I no longer felt intimidated but welcomed. As I gradually adjusted to my new environment, I learned new ways to communicate with others and discovered the potential that I had within me that was concealed by my shyness. As I grew more confident, I got involved in school activities, improved my grades, and found myself feeling more comfortable engaging in casual conversations with my peers, and even engaging in class. Through my involvement in Latino Interact club, book club, badminton along with other organizations, I realized that I slowly overcame my fear and began making a change in my life. Ironically, I considered my shyness a communication barrier; however, it has ultimately led me to focus on a field where I will be able to help others to overcome this obstacle and has taught me true physical and mental strength. Moreover, it has given me plenty of opportunities to excel in any area as well as giving me the confidence that I used to lack.Prompt 2I believe education is the key to success and I try to connect my passion for education with my desire of helping others. My main source of inspiration to become a nurse comes from an innate desire to help people and care for them in times of need. I am person who thrives on being challenged and always have new goals to accomplish. My personal interest in the nursing profession is rooted in my innate desire to be involved in the improvement of others’ health, to be knowledgeable in the various topics pertaining to health care, and to possess the means to explore my fullest potential through a meaningful career.
