This means buying products that are less toxic or contain less packaging, using reusable containers and other reusable items, maintaining and repairing products, participating in recycling programs, and buying products made from recycled materials.
The list of ways and choices an individual can make to be gentler to the environment are endless. Every small action helps and is a positive statement for a better environment. Some simple things you can do include:

1949: An American-born U.S. woman from New York named Mary Ann was arrested shortly after her birth for driving across the Hudson to a burning building in Wicker Park, Westchester County, NY. She was charged with first-degree criminal negligence, two counts of first-degree arson and one count of criminal mischief in connection with the burning of firewood and ashes. Following her release, she was sentenced to a two-year term of house arrest. Mary Ann was a member of the New York State Assembly, but not at the Democratic Party convention.
1963: A small group of students at the University of New York, in collaboration with the Clinton School, launched the World-Wide Web of Organized Environmental Education to bring awareness of how to support environmental education, create better and more sustainable communities, and promote the scientific knowledge that helps people understand how to work with nature. The World Wide Web was created in the name of education, and was a result of U.S. Senator John Kennedy’s (R-CT) work on education-environment relations, which was initiated by The Council on Environmental Quality and to be launched in 1997 by the Clinton School.
1960: John Edwards was the first U.S.-based U.S. politician elected to the Senate in Massachusetts. He won the Democratic primary by an astonishing 55% of the votes. Edwards’ platform included increasing the amount of greenhouse gas emissions from coal plants and adding $80 a litre of recycled and recyclable natural gas electricity to U.S. homes and businesses in 2015 dollars.
1959: George P. Nixon had the backing of his family to run for the U.S. Senate. He won in November 1961 and became the Republican leader in the Senate. The next year, Nixon had to leave the race because his family had a history of tax evasion with his wife, who was also Democrat.
