INTRODUCTION1.1 Background to the study Literature has been considered as an art form or any single writing which deems to have artistic or intellectual value. Due to deploying language in ways that differ from ordinary usage, when reading a literary text with full of beautiful words, one may picture in mind an imaginary world that is even more vivid than reality. Literature can empower human mind in bringing to the readers the others’ life experience and wisdom. Literature also helps the readers in their social life from simply entertainment when we read a book or watch a film adapted from a literature masterpiece to the effectiveness in political lectures of some country leaders. Apart from that, literature has impacted human life in countless ways. Stories written by famous authors from last centuries have stimulated people’s interest in history and many other subjects belong to the settings described in these stories, while simultaneously influencing the personal development of the readers along the way. That is the reason why it would not be exaggerating to say that literature is powerful and has the ability to shape who people, particularly children, will become throughout their lives.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     Based on the idea that literature can be the most useful means by which we discover ourselves and what we are, children’s literature should be paid much more attention and introduced to the young as early as possible because there is a connection between literature and children. These points of view are more firmly supported by Evelyn Holt Otten’s opinion that children’s literature or reading stories do not lead directly to a child’s character development but she dares to say: “… [M]any of us have found books that helped us to grow, that pushed us to rethink our views, perhaps even brought about a chance in our standards – in the other words, the books influenced our character and helped to make us the person we are today.”

(Otten, 2002)                                        The power of literature is also evaluated by the immortality of great literature. From the Stone Age, the early human race made the first drawings as human language (Simic, 2018) within a cave where ceremony and storytelling may have also taken place. Storytellers who could be the oldest experienced man in the tribe or grandparents or parents in the family passed through the generations by word of mouth the traditional beliefs, customs, and stories of a community. Members of a social community gather before bedtime to listen to and enjoyed folklore, and after the development of the printing press in the late 1400s, they were able to read folk literature (Hunt, 1994). Little children who haven’t got literacy ability yet grow on the songs from their mom to sing them to sleep with the hope that they will grow up and not be afraid to take on the world. As doing this, children enjoy literature before they can read and write. Some fairy tales such as Cinderella, Snow White, Little Red Riding Hood, Pinocchio and so forth imprint in their memory and live with them during their life long. Apart from folklores and fairy tales collected and then rewrote since the seventeenth century, works for children along with Andersen’s fairy tales from Denmark, marked the birth of literary fairy tales in the modern literature form. For centuries, children have read and treasured these classic books but in the 21st century, there is a change in readers’ taste. Children are more interesting in fantasy form which a plot cannot or has not yet occur in the real world. Although Jules Verne, known for his series of novels about fantastic voyages in 1800s, is often credited as the first major author of the science fiction adventure stories for both children and adults, since the late 1940s science fiction books have been by far popular around the world. According to D’Ammassa (1946), there is no clear explanation for the immense popularity of science fiction in preference to fantasy, particularly in the United States. Possibly it is because Americans are so fond of technology and it is because we found it easier to lose ourselves in a fantastic world that might just be possible rather than in a magical one like fairy tales. However, we can see clearly on books and buster films of 2000s that some science fiction works have merged both magic and science.
