What Is Your Worth
“  What Is Your Worth?”Just like the $20, often in our lives we are dropped, maybe by those we are in personal relationships with, crumpled by verbal or physical abuse, spit upon and grounded into the dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way. Then, of course, there are times we find ourselves being slighted or treated by others as though we are of little value. The next thing we know, we have allowed what other people do to us and say about us determine our self worth. Now, let’s take the focus of ourselves. Think about how we have the tendency to value some people more or less than others maybe based upon their educational, financial or positional status in life. How should we value ourselves and our fellow man? How we value ourselves is at the heart of relationships with others. When we don’t recognize our value it can be hard to be compassionate to ourselves and others, learn from our mistakes and appreciate our successes. When our value is high, we manage life’s challenges, appreciate life more fully and have more satisfying contact with others. We can become our best friend and wisest counsel. So, how we value ourselves and other should be based on God’s value system and no one else’s.No matter what has happened, we will NEVER lose value in God’s eyes. To Him, dirty or clean, crumpled or spat upon and grounded into the dirt, we are still PRICELESS!Let’s take a biblical look at how God cares for us and how much He values us.Open your Bible to Matt. 10:29-31. These verses let us now God cares for His creations/the sparrows in this case SO MUCH!! In fact, not even one dies and falls on the ground without God noticing it. But to us sparrows seem so small and worthless. In fact, in Bible times, two sparrows were sold for a farthing (less than 1 cent). If God values the sparrows so much, how much does He care for and value us? Are not we of more value than MANY sparrows? Yes! In fact, God knows so much about us that even every hair on our head is numbered! Matt. 10:30 But how much are you and I truly worth? And what value should we place upon each other? In countless ways we live in a society that constantly assigns to us various levels of worth and status, from 1st class airfare to VIP access or a platinum membership. As human beings, we size ourselves up constantly, and in some ways, this is simply the economy of the world in which we live. However, those who follow Christ are invited into life in God’s kingdom, and in God’s kingdom priorities and value get turned upside down.
As we enter into God’s kingdom, we see that unlike the values of the world, God isn’t impressed by our wealth, our power, or our social status. In fact, He invites us to show the world what is truly of value and worth! In the scripture we are reminded time and time again that the worth of every human being comes, not from their intelligence or perceived value but from the fact that we are created in the image of God and beloved by Him. Rom.5:6-8; Psa.139:13-15; Jer.29:11; Luke 12:6-7; 1Cor.10:13; Rom.5:8; Eph.2:10: James 3:9The only requirement for anyone to enter into God’s kingdom is to respond in love to the love shown in Jesus Christ. This strikes at the very heart of the true value system of God’s economy. The only worth any human being has is the simple fact that they are loved by God and created in His image. In light of the values of God’s kingdom, Paul’s word from Rom.5:6-8 are deeply significant. Jesus didn’t extend His love to us once’ we had it all together”, once we had a name for ourselves or proved our worth to Him. No, God showed His impartial all embracing love for us while we were still sinners. And here’s the hard part: if this is how God loves us, it should also be how we love one another. But, often we look at the work someone id doing, and if they’re doing a poor job, perhaps always making mistakes, then we view that person as of little value. Bit is this the correct way of seeing value in someone?
