One of the main influences in youth is trying to be cool and fit in. In the movie being cool meant that you had to act like a gangster to fit in. Another influence would be murder. In the film they get introduced to guns and murder at a young age. Theyre so used to it that when they see a dead body lying in the grass theyre not even shocked. Theyve seen it so much that it doesnt even matter anymore. Guns were seen as a sign of power in the movie. The idea was put on these kids at a young age that guns are cool. In the movie it said that you can get a gun on almost any block. They make it so easy to get a gun but it shouldnt be because young kids buy them to be cool and end up killing each other.

The way that music portrays the lives of African Americans is that they talk about everyday situations in there lifes. They use rap and hip hop to talk about them living in the ghetto and what they do and how they live. They use RnB for signing about the hard times theyve been through and are still living through. So I think they use different genres to sign about different things. African Americans mostly sign RnB and rap because theyre the best at it and those styles best fit there lifestyles.

What I noticed in the film is that when there just sitting around at home there listening to music that is more smooth and slow. When they go out they listen to more up beat gangster music. That actually compares to me and my friends a lot because we do the same thing. I think young people do this is because when theyre at home they listen to anything that suits there mood. When they go out its time to party and look cool so they turn on whats popular and what everyone else is listening to. I think its also just to have that cool image when you go out.
