Cpd 101 – Long Term Planning for Success
Long Term Planning for SuccessJacob BohlmannCPD 101 Monica Vogan6/28/16Jacob BohlmannMonica VoganCPD 1016/28/16Long Term Planning for Success:        My first defining moment in terms of what path I chose in life was when I was 8 on a road trip to Disneyland with my father, driving up the highway in the middle of the night. My father pulled over and told me to stay in the car but being the kind of person I am I got out and wanted to see what was going on. There was a motorcycle accident in the side of the road, a young man in his 20’s had his arm ripped clean off his body and was bleeding out profusely on the side of the road. I remember wanting to help so badly and thinking over and over about how if I’d had the skill to save him I could’ve and since then I’ve never wanted to feel that way again. For a long time as a kid I had issues with lack of empathy for other people and being in this field helps me grow as a person. I decided to pursue a career in the medical field where I can save people every day and feel good about the kind of person I am. For me that means becoming a nurse practitioner and establishing myself at a major hospital somewhere in Seattle.
The path I need to follow in order to receive my dream job begins at the community college level completing my pre requisites towards my Registered Nursing degree. Once I have completed my 2 year degree I plan on moving onto a major university such as ASU or U of A. Moving on from that I hope to achieve my nurse practitioners license but will still be happy if I only achieve my RN. I’ve been in medical professions for two years now and throughout my experience I’ve enjoyed Geriatrics more than anything else and would love to eventually work only in hospice.  I always wanted to love in Bellingham but there is really only one hospital in the area and I know it’s not practical to try to secure a single position but I want to try, or I could commute if necessary but I’ve always wanted to be able to walk or bike to work.        Motivation for me is knowing that there is no grey area in this kind of work between right and wrong, I will always be helping people and helping other people heal makes me happier than anything else does. I have strong protective instincts and care about others safety more than even my own a lot of the time so I know that giving myself over to a career like this I could be happy forever regardless of pay. A lot of people like to pretend like the world isn’t as cruel as it is but I came to the reality of life extremely young and want to face all the struggles life can throw at humanity head on. Strengths for me are that I am a very strong speaker and I can make friends with almost anybody. I have an extremely social attitude and absolutely love working with people over any desk job, I have to be on my feet or I will get impatient. My struggles in school have always been getting distracted in class and goofing off but during my time at the hospital I never once found myself bored in the least, even the little things like changing an oxygen tank keep my intention span at bay. A job where I am on my feet all the time is perfect for me, I never want to be the kind of person who’s trapped behind a desk 9-5 because I body that is in motion tends to stay in motion. My passion is writing and travel, nothing is more inspiring then working in health care and the career I’m pursuing should give me the salary to travel to the places I wish.
