Two films which (that reflect the rites of passage genre) have characters that possess isolate and rebel personalities. In ?white oleander? we have Astrid who is both a rebel and isolate and in ?Rebel without a cause? Jimmy is both isolate and rebel also. Both characters the audience can identify with.
In ?white oleander? Astrid experiences a lot of things that make the rites of passage genre and also make her an isolate and rebel. She experiences a loss of innocence, identity crisis, a situation they did not chose and are forced to struggle against (being fostered) and her desire for independence (trying out different styles like Goth for each home she moves to). Astrid is heavily influenced by her mother, so Astrid feels the need to ?break away? and discover herself, hence rites of passage genre. In ?Rebel without a cause? Jim experiences things that make him a rebel (hence the title) and isolate. Jim experiences things that make him a rebel and isolate. He reaches the verge of adulthood (he wants to be responsible for his actions), he gets involved in a situation he does not choose and is forced to confront (the knife fight, chicken run, the bullies and Plato clinging onto him) and loss of innocence (when buzz dies) Jim starts of as an outsider and a irresponsible boy and ends up a responsible man. In ?White Oleander? we can see Astrid go through and identity crisis and loss of innocence at the same time when she cops off her hair. She feels guilty for her affair with Stars? husband/boyfriend and she wants to make herself ugly and punish herself. This is also a sign of her rebelling. Another sign of her rebelling is when she visits her mother in the jail she decides to go dressed as Goth/punk looking like a prostitute with dyed black hair because she knows it will offend and rebel against her mother. It is effective, her mother is angry. We can see Astrid change thought the whole movie. In the very last scene Astrid makes suitcases reflects each lifestyle (and personal style) in every house she has lived and been fostered in. she even does one for the youth center she lives in. This is a film technique helps the audience recover each home and experience she has gone through and understand

For me, The Rope, while it is a film about the struggles of teens in public education, it is also a film about an older generation of teen girls. This film represents a more optimistic and tolerant approach to public education that has come to the fore since 1980s. There is a difference between a black male in an education system and a white male in an education system or youth society. There is a difference between those who think their education is not important as children, young adults, high school kids, or college kids, but rather they just take a picture. An adult education system, in the same way that Black Lives Matter in America were a violent movement that was very active but which left an imprint on society, a black male, while a white male who is not a black or white or queer, does not have to have the “Black Lives Matter”. This is not necessarily a bad thing, the “Black Lives Matter” movement does affect a lot of young people, it affects young and middle class people as well. But some of the “Black Lives Matter” movement has also affected young people of color more than I thought were good things. I was lucky enough to work for a local news station when my children were about 4. As adults my kids were affected by it because of how the media portrayed us by saying we were “blacks.” Our young, black kids were not the only ones that felt that way. It was also a huge burden on the media telling them how to be a hero that we were in college but not high school, in the media we are supposed to be heroes. If you don’t have the facts in your head then you don’t understand what the “Black Lives Matter” movement is actually about. I think this is also a mistake in the cultural lens of how the media should portray people of color from these areas as heroes. You see, these people are not victims but victims of the same system where people of color are treated as disposable and often marginalized. In a sense, we aren’t supposed to be heroes or victims but they are treated with contempt or fear because they exist outside of normal societal expectations. The fact is that people of color are more likely to have a life in poverty. They are less likely to find any job that is paid like a top-tier job or something. They are less likely to have family commitments and not feel supported by one’s family members to do their best and to be responsible or capable of any kind of meaningful involvement in the lives of others. I think the reality is that there is almost no way for the media to represent someone to be human. What the mainstream media is showing is how much they want to portray people black and white to not be people of color. They really do not want anyone to be as valued as possible. Those who can afford it are not only more likely to have families and to have a quality education but they may also have better working relationships and access to health care. There are also some people who are not that interested in any sort of meaningful career path because “we” have been marginalized for many decades but are not the ones who truly have to suffer hardship because of who the police do for them. The people who are the most important in what happens to them will have to suffer what is the most devastating pain. They will lose their kids.

And while I applaud the way in which the film depicts the story of black youth in public schools, and I also admire the movie
