U.S.History Ip 4 U4 Lousianna PurchaseEssay Preview: U.S.History Ip 4 U4 Lousianna PurchaseReport this essayIn this assignment I choose t write about the Louisiana Purchase. Thomas Jefferson a man that went against all what he thought was to moral and to his understanding had to put his feelings aside in order to attain such land for such a small price and it later proved that he will always be remembered as the man who purchased Louisiana and later created 13 new territories. I will give you the reason why it was purchased and what were the short and long term consequences of this purchase.
How did the U.S. acquire the territory in question? When you first talk about the purchasing of Louisiana you think that okay purchase of a land. For someone who does not have the luxuries, meaning that they know very little about history simply because they are not afforded the education we have they may have thought that this was all that it was. Well the Louisiana Purchase was one of the largest land deals in history. In 1803, the United States brought Louisiana. We borrowed the money approximately $15 million dollars to purchase over 800,000 square miles of land. That means land was purchase for 4 cents or less. Imagine that. The housing market was great back then. This deal was the greatest accomplishment of President Thomas Jeffersons and lead up to the Declaration of Independence. Even though Jefferson had much to say, it was written by James Madison. Thomas Jefferson strongly spoke against the federal government and advocated states rights. Jeffersons understanding of the central government can be seen with his disagreement with Alexander Hamilton over the creation of a National Bank. This is an important part of history and the purchasing of the Louisiana purchase because Jefferson had to bite his tongue and put his feelings aside if he wanted the funds to go through as smooth as possible. Waiting for an amendment would have delayed transaction to go through. Thankfully everyone agreed that it was a good move.
The purchasing of Louisiana was an important move because in 1801 Spain and France signed a treaty, secretly tiding Louisiana to France. Then of course with that treaty being signed, France was an immediate threat to America. Gotta admit love Americas thinking. America feared that if it did not purchase New Orleans from the French, it could lead to a war. The reason was because it would lead to a main way of transportation. The exchange of ownership of this main port meant that it was closed to Americans. When Jefferson sent ships to France to try and secure its purchase, they returned with an agreement to buy the whole entire Louisiana Territory. Like now even back then we Americans didnt have the money to pay $15 million out front so we so borrowed the money from Great Britain at 6% interest. Being that we now had purchased this territory, the land in America nearly doubled. , The southern and western boundaries were not clearly stated in the purchase
From 1855 to 1867, the US would take over the Louisiana coast. Since the Civil War it gained that power from an agreement reached in 1865, a treaty that made the Mississippi River a trade route to America via New Orleans. The Louisiana land to America as it was being purchased would be divided into smaller parcels. That was what this trade route was actually doing. Louisiana was still Louisiana, however by the time it was purchased by the US in 1866, the land in Louisiana would be a little smaller than that before. In 1877 and 1874, the French negotiated an early trade agreement, which created a trade agreement and with the help of the United States, a major European nation, opened the border in New Orleans to its American colonies. This also created an American power base in the South of Louisiana. With this, New Orleans became the main port for the new American colonies. In 1875, the First World War opened a new frontier for the United States with the Battle of the Mississippi. The War of 1864-74 broke a trade deal between North and South which allowed America to claim the Louisiana sea. More than 100,000 U.S. troops fought for the Free South and Southwesterners, to protect Louisiana against pirates. At the same time, another war broke out in France, taking the Spanish-American Union down. The French defeated the French troops and gained control of New Orleans, Louisiana. New Orleans is now home to more than 350,000 people. From 1862 to 1877 the United States and the Western Hemisphere were separated by the Great Pacific War. The war started with the British in the northern Pacific who seized New Orleans in 1775 and the French in the Southern Pacific in 1865. During the war, the United States began defending New Orleans, so the Americans gained power through a treaty and a military agreement to fight the French there. Then in 1878, the French joined the West coast alliance. By 1860, the United States began to break free from the French. This created a new economic crisis, as in 1914 the government in the US in Washington sought to turn over millions of American and British workers who had given up working during the war. They demanded that we take over the American flag and remove it from the country. With no military forces and no trade partners, the Americans wanted to make up for lost wages. To this day Louisiana is still the largest American colony in the USA. The first American soldier was John W. Allen, son of a French officer, who would serve with him in World War I and I believe was a part of the initial attack on Pearl Harbor when American forces were able to break through the French defenses.
The United States created the Louisiana Land Port on November 6, 1873 and it is now known as the Louisiana Land Port. As of 1970 it has an entrance road to the Gulf that is 5.8 miles long. It includes the Old North Bend Freeway and a number of bridges over a stretch of Louisiana with some parts becoming Louisiana Island and the South Louisiana Highway leading west to the Mississippi River and the Mississippi River. It also has a small lake from the Atlantic that was created by the United States of America during the Revolutionary War. The next year, the US Navy made a stop at Louisiana on their way home from the war. In addition to the US Army and Navy, the Army is using the area of Louisiana to develop a new naval base. Its just south of the US Army Training Corps base on the southern edge of New Orleans. However, the Louisiana Land Port already had many American soldiers stationed there. After the Americans left
